I was referred by NHS 111. I received a call back regarding my severe Dental Pain in a matter of minutes. I was given good medical advice to help ease my pain with on the shelf medication, this was advice from a dental nurse on duty. I was immediately put in touch with a Dentist locally having explained my situation. I contacted the Dentist and was given an appointment the next day which I really wasn't expecting having lived locally for 5 years and struggled to find a Dentist willing to take on new Patients. My partner was just directed to these by the NHS as an emergency dentist (the 4th redirect so far!); their guidance? They advised my partner that she needed to be overdosed on paracetamol and/or ibuprofen before they could see her, and that is a quote. That in itself is the worst medical advice you could ever give someone, and specifically contradicts the NHS advice which stated that taking too much paracetamol and/or ibuprofen would result in dentists refusing to see her.
