Nice place – Got lucky and went on a Sunday. Had the "Farm Menu", a 4 course meal based on what the chef could find at the farmers' market that day. Very good overall with very fresh ingredients presented in an interesting way. Particularly good was the stinging nettle spaghetti and the duck. The pluot tart was OK but a little too tart for my liking. The pastry was a puff-type pastry which I didn't expect. My wife and kids tried the apple tart which was much better. Like a lot of S.F. restaurants, this isn't the best place t... read more
Best Late Night Dining – This place has amazing food and is serves later than most restaurants. These are the two reasons I end up there from time to time. The menu is fresh daily and always delicious. The ambience is lively and eclectic. I always feel comfortable regardless if I am dressed up or down. There' s a bar too, which adds to the casual side of this place, where you can pop in just for drinks or eat your meal. The waitstaff is unpretentious. But eventually it's the memory of the food that keeps bringing me back.
Great Late Night Dining – I feel bad for everyone who had a bad experience at Globe as mine was so good. This place was a godsend on my last trip to SF when we were looking for a place to have some food & a drink after midnight in the financial district. It was recommended by a waitress of another place that was closing. We did have to wait for a table & I would say that the service could have been better but the waitstaff was nice, just really busy. The food that night was absolutely fantastic. oysters, lamb chops, the appl... read more
Hefty portions of delicious food – Globe has been on "my list" of restaurants to check out since early 2000. Finally went there last night and I am so happy I did! Wish I had gone sooner. The space is cozy - love the exposed brick. The staff was a bit slow greeting us and taking our initial drink order, but after that... it was smooth sailing. I started with the tuna tartare and had the king salmon as my entree. I was VERY pleased with my selections. Both were exceptional! The portion sizes were very satisfying as well. Wort... read more
-Miserable- – If you want to eat uncreative and poorly made food served by a staff that treats you with contempt, then Globe is the place to waste your money. This is not a jokeat the table next to me someone fell asleep during their meal.
Best Steak Ever – I went to globe the other night for the first time I just moved hear from NY and was so happy to find a place to eat with real food at 1am the service was friendly and attentive the atmosphere is cool hip and sophisticated, and the food is to die for we had the tuna tar tar awsome , the lamb riblets, the beats salad and the mesquite grilled bone in NY steak for two the thing was twoo pounds of shear pleasure served with steaming hot potatoes gratin and grilled green oninons I highly recomend this place
Felt swindled – My husband and I were looking for a fun place to eat dinner late on Friday (5/5/06). We got to Globe around 11:00 and were promptly seated. We asked our server why it said that the steak (priced at $26) was recommended for two. He said that it is "really big...that's why". The steak was "very average" but was a very good sized portion and we did take some home. However, when we got the bill I was in shock. Our waiter charged us $52 for the steak!!! We asked him to clarify and he said "well the steak is recomm... read more
Bad service – We lost our reservation just because we arrived 10 minutes late. They could have held our reservation at least 15 minutes. We decided never to go back.
WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!! – We went in last night and were the last to be seated before their 1am closing time. When our server arrived, we offered to order everything right away and pay the check upfront to make it easier for everyone. He rudely told us that the kitchen had already packed everything away and was less than happy to make our food. He did not talk to us once during our whole meal, sloppily poured our wine all over the table, threw our food down angrily. Our craving for their mac n cheese and spaghetti ... read more
