About this business

Frontera Grill is the sister establishment of the more well known, Topolobampo next door. Both restaurants are from the celebrated Chef Rick Bayless, however this spot focuses more on casual dining. On weekends, Frontera is always packed, but if you are lucky, you can grab a small stool at the bar with drinks and appetizers before the hostess finds your table. Basic margaritas are quite pricey, but one usually packs enough top shelf tequila to sate the palate before the food arrives. Some of the options on the menu include e... read more

Be ready to walk into the sounds and tastes of Mexico. Topolo margarita was delicious and refreshing. The perfect balance of flavors. Order the guacamole and salsa! You will not be disappointed. Fresh ingredients and full of flavor. Steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked to order. Plantains were a sweet fried treat. Fresh tortillas were a perfect accompaniment. Service was excellent!

Food and service were excellent. A bit loud, but it seems our little millennial friends like that. They must be more deaf than we old folks are. ;-)

This go to River North eatery is one of my all time favorites. I have been visiting here 20+ years and they still find a way to keep it fresh and current. Don't expect TexMex with all that gooey cheese sauce, this is much more real Mexican. The fish dishes, especially the ceviches, are always a winner but don't ignore the simple but well prepared grilled entrees. And, last but not least, their margaritas are to die for! Put this at the top of your list when visiting the Windy City.

Margaritas are perfect, the tamales were so good and the pork loin was tender. I can't wait to go back!!
