About this business

Frontera Grill is the sister establishment of the more well known, Topolobampo next door. Both restaurants are from the celebrated Chef Rick Bayless, however this spot focuses more on casual dining. On weekends, Frontera is always packed, but if you are lucky, you can grab a small stool at the bar with drinks and appetizers before the hostess finds your table. Basic margaritas are quite pricey, but one usually packs enough top shelf tequila to sate the palate before the food arrives. Some of the options on the menu include e... read more

The cochinita pibil was too salty. Our waiter simply took it away and didn't offer to replace with another dish.

We came in to Chicago to celebrate my sister in law's 50th and this was one place on our list. I can't begin to share what a great experience it was. Chicago is a beautiful City filled with so many amazing, nice people and our folks at Frontera made it that much easier. We had a lunch reservation at 1pm and 2 of our group were held up due to a flight delay - the staff accommodated us and prepared and kept their meal warm until they arrived - we were beyond grateful for their hospitality. Rick Bayliss has an amazing team behi... read more

The chicken enchiladas with mole poblano were delicious, didn't get to try dessert because I was stuffed from the enchiladas and black beans. The place was packed but the staff is quick, didn't have to wait too long for our food. Definitely going back if I'm ever in Chicago again.

Expected more from a James Beard winner. My duck was supposed to be medium-rare but it was medium. But the art work w on the walls was amazing.

This was a very special trip here after hearing about the food and location for so long. I grew up watching Chef Bayless with my father and finally was able to visit the restaurant. The food has been amazing. The atmosphere is only topped by the frieldy staff. You feel as though you are family stopping by for lunch. Best experience in Chicago hands down. Could have only been topped by meeting Chef Rick Bayless himself.

First I couldn't get a reservation till 8:45 pm for one, so I went early to sit at bar around 7:30 and the hostess said I could sit you now if you want. I didn't have to think about since I have been waiting almost 10 years to go. I have to say from apps to dessert it was amazing and margaritas weren't bad either. The chocolate pecan pie is to die for.

Was looking forward to it as I had researched a number of highly regarded places on this trip to Chicago. After an initial positive experience with the door staff, the bar server, and the appetizer, things went off the rail. Our entrees were way long on wait time . They showed up just before I was going to go ask, and they were cold. I informed the waiter of the cold food and he only removed one of our two items. I had to summon someone else to get the second entree heated up. Once the food arrived again, we both kind of tho... read more
