My wife needed to rollover shares in a closely-held farm from one Self-directed trustee to Equity Trust (where the original funds came from). For weeks they dithered and then, without giving any reason, refused to allow the shares to be rolled over. We already have substantial holdings in gold and have had these for many years with Equity Trust. Their refusal has cost us the tax dollars on shares that are not liquid. So much for "Self-Directed."

If I could leave a minus number for Equity Trust Company I would. They are incompetent, expensive dishonest, and unreliable. They hold a Traditional IRA account for me. I sold the asset in the account and am now trying to get the proceeds wired to another Traditional IRA account. It has been over 3 weeks and they continue to give me the run around about how busy they are with no assurance for a date certain or even if the wire transfer will be completed. I would recommend not doing business with ETC. I held silver in a self directed IRA. It has taken over a month to close that account. They would not send account activity paperwork by email or regular mail. I have to wait for the quarterly reports to be mailed. luckily for me it is 10-1-19 and I was told that I should receive the report in a week or two no guarantee. STAY FAR AWAY

This company will do anything they can to postpone or delay payments.. they have given us one excuse after another. They even have said that there is not enough money on hand to make any payout what so ever. Our client asked to have a payout of his IRA as he and his wife are in nursing homes, and they need to pay for their care. We have tried to help them fill out all the paperwork for a distribution of his IRA only to be told that they don't have any money now to distribute or they can not talk to the POA about anything. This company is dishonest and will find any way they can to defraud people out of their retirement investments. My most recent example is a notification about "potential" fees for expedited service. I marked "Normal Processing Service" on their provided paperwork, and was still ambushed with a fee. After the fact, all they will tell you is, "well you got expedited service, didn't you? The opt out box (on the only paperwork ETC provides) doesn't work at certain times of the year." I get that they can charge more for their ser... read more

I had a check from my Equity Trust account to pay a contractor. Things changed and I did not use that contractor. I returned the check with the form I was told to use. Included it with my monthly rent checks. After seeing my rent checks post but not the unused Equity Trust check I returned did not post to my account. Run Away as fast as you can!!! I had physical silver held there and wanted to liquidate. I called and was on hold for over thirty minutes, then when I talked to a rep, I was told that they couldn't sell it and that I would need a precious metals broker to do the sale.
