El Chile Cafe Y Cantina

4.3

About this business

El Chile Cafe y Cantina is a chic, yet unpretentious hangout. The walls and the artwork displayed around the restaurant is tasteful. What's equally tasty is the tortilla chips with avocado, salsa and fish. They do have the usual fare of tacos and enchiladas. If you're game, also attempt the pear margarita or the tejas tea. The Happy Hour is only on weekdays but you wouldn't know the difference. El Chile Cafe y Cantina is all about having fun, is a vibrant place and is unlike most other eateries that are Tex-Mex.

I want to tell you not to go... – Because I just found this place, which I plan to make my neighborhood spot - and I selfishly want to keep it to myself. The salsa is superb. The seviche is great too (Although chopping everything smaller would make it easier to eat). Service is excellent, and the prickly pear margaritas are the best I have ever had (and strong too - they don't mess around.) Anyone who still considers this a "not so great part of town" should stay in Hyde Park, and leave El Chile to the rest of us.

Sabroso! – I was truly impressed with this restaurant. As the daughter of Mexican parents I am very picky about Mexican restaurants in Austin or anywhere else. I ordered the flautas and they were very, very good. The rice and beans were good too but didn't taste like the family recipe. I will recommend El Chile to all my family and friends. It's also a great place to hang out with friends. Unfortunately, I would not take my toddler son there because I know for a fact he would love to run up and down the entrance ramp and the... read more

what a wonderful restaurant. – I've grown up in a restaurant family, as well as worked in a number of restaurants, cafes, and bars, and I can't tell you how pleased I was with my experience tonight at El Chile. The server was extremely friendly and helpful, without being overbearing, and made excellent menu suggestions. The salsa is exceptional, my Dos XX draft beer was served so cold there was a layer of ice crystals floating on the surface(I kid you not). Each of our entrees was delicious. I ordered the chicken breast with... read more

I dig it – I visited this quaint restaurant recently and found exactly what I had been told makes it so special. That is a friendly, inviting atmosphere where the food is just spicey enough and the crowd is sizzling to. The proprietors where there every much as involved as the first day they opened, I am sure. It was a happy, warm, and exciting time with the hustle and bustle of the fellow diners and the sounds and smells of the kitchen. I will be visiting again and I will bring more San Antonians to experience the melting p... read more

Will definitely return – Showed up with a party of six on Saturday around 6:30 and we were seated within 5 minutes. The waitress was excellent -very attentive with our multiple appetizer/drink orders. Food was great. The sauces particularly good. Highly recommend the shrimp. The mojitos are really good - not too sweet.

Exceded My Expectations – We had no idea what to expect from El Chile, but had heard good things....we could not have been more impressed. The place was packed on Friday night, but we could order drinks on the patio and were quickly seated. We were seated on the patio, and I was a little apprehensive because it was pretty warm the humidity was about 98%. However, the avocado/cucumber/shrimp gazpacho cooled us right down (along with a massive Dos Equis draft). My wife had an awesome talapia - corn salsa topping with creamy av... read more

Fantastic New Place! – I have been to lunch at El Chile twice already--once during the week and once on a Saturday. The food is consistently great, and the ambience and price will keep me coming back. The service was good, although our waitress during the week seemed to not like her job much. She was efficient, but not necessarily pleasant. The manager who came to check on us a couple of times was very friendly, though. The food is excellent.

Not worth the time! – It was crowded but we were excited about trying this place. We had heard great reviews. After waiting about 45 minutes we were finally seated. Its a small place, and it looked like other people read the review too. When we finally were seated, the waiter rushed us into ordering. We watched people come and go. After forty five minutes, we noticed everyone around us was getting their order except us, so we asked the manager about our order. We would have asked our waiter, but he never came by to check on ... read more

This place rocks! – I absolutely LOVE this new restaurant and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food at reasonable prices in a warm and inviting restaurant. I am thrilled that this restaurant is in my neighborhood and have been telling everyone to check it out. I especially like the "mole roja" sauce on several of their dishes. Desserts are so tempting with a terrific flan and homemade cinnamon ice cream... YUM!
