El Chile Cafe Y Cantina

4.3

About this business

El Chile Cafe y Cantina is a chic, yet unpretentious hangout. The walls and the artwork displayed around the restaurant is tasteful. What's equally tasty is the tortilla chips with avocado, salsa and fish. They do have the usual fare of tacos and enchiladas. If you're game, also attempt the pear margarita or the tejas tea. The Happy Hour is only on weekdays but you wouldn't know the difference. El Chile Cafe y Cantina is all about having fun, is a vibrant place and is unlike most other eateries that are Tex-Mex.

Wow – This place was amazing. It had wonderful food (fish tacos and tortilla talipia were great), great service, and it was just a great lunch experience. I would defanitly recommend it to anyone. I even liked the flan which I have never liked before.

Absolute Deliciousness – My best friend and I stumbled upon El Chile one night and ended up having an awesome time. Sure, it might be smaller than some restaurants, but it makes up for its size big time with the food, drinks and service. It's a great and inexpensive retreat from traditional restaurants. And I've worked in fine dining for so long that I ususally find myself critiquing everything, but I was able to enjoy myself there because they really knew what they were doing. And for those of you who think it's too loud or... read more

Great Mexican – The table salsa is like nothing I've had before, dark, roasted, with smokey undertones. The shrimp nachos were great. I've eaten lots of fajitas in my life but I've never had beef fajitas with so much flavor. Even the peppers were tasty. The perfect margarita is just that. Smooth and subtle. I also tried the mojito and was actually surprised at how good it was. Most mojitos are too sweet. This, again, was perfect. You could taste the fresh lime and mint with just a hint of sweetness to keep you from puckering... read more

trendy - thats it – This place is considered cool - thats why people come here. It is small, does not have a lot of room, and its food is below average. The candle light and dim lighting could make it romantic were it not so loud - as all the want to be cool people blab loudly drinking bad mojitos. To its credit, this place *tries* to serve some interesting food. They have some dishes which are a blend of mexican and south american cuisine. Sadly, nothing is very good, and all the portions are entirely too small. Prices are ... read more

My favorite place to dine in Austin – This is undoubtedly my favorite place to dine in Austin. The salsa is amazing and the margaritas are the best in town. I highly recommend the Prickly Pear or Chilango margaritas. If you feel like a beer go for the Michelada. Its ecstasy in a schooner. I prefer mine on the rocks. The food is absolutely incredible. If youre ordering from the menu check out the mole. Not to sweet, not to spicy. The sauce is balanced as no one flavor is overbearing. Be sure to save room for dessert. My favor... read more

too trendy for those wanna be trendies! – IF you want to sit outside, not hear your party talk, and sit on a smaller table than preschoolers, and go to be seen, go there. The service was great, and food good. Go if you want to experience wierd Austin. A truly overly trendy, won't last eatery.

As good as it gets... – El Chile has never failed to deliver excellent service, delicious food, and a fun, laid-back atmosphere. The chile relleno is the best I have ever had in America. Aside from being some of the best food in Austin, it is very affordable and never pretentious. A late lunch is especially good, because it tends to be less crowded
