I would highly recommend Dr. Kaufmann to everyone I know. Fantastic surgeon--he took time with me and explained everything in a crystal clear manner. I feel very confident in him and the entire UPMC Orthopaedic Department. Anyone who says otherwise, is obviously ignorant, uneducated and should not be voicing an opinion about this man or his profession.
While Dr. Kaufmann turned out to be a very skillful surgeon for my mother, our family would be hesitant to recomend him due to poor bedside manners. Every follow up she had he did not listen to her concerns and only told her what a fantastic job he had done on the surgery. The icing on the cake for her was her last visit when reached out for her hand, looked in her eyes and told her it had been 4 long years since her surgery (implying she had come a long way). Had to wait two hours past my scheduled appointment. Dr. didn't offer any explination at all. He couldn't have cared less. Had coffee container in waiting room-both empty. Never refilled.
I would recommend Dr. Kaufmann to anyone. I had an extremely bad dislocated elbow. I had a hard time finding a doctor willing to take my case. Dr. Kaufmann did a wonderful job! I was under his care for three surgeries plus rehab over 1 year. I got to know him and respect him. I don't think I could have gotten a better orthopedic doctor.
I found the staff to be cordial and accomodating. Although we did have to wait a bit past our appointment time, I felt the the wait was actually surprisingly short and significantly shorter than most doctors I visit. Dr. Kaufmann was very pleasant and sympathetic to my 17 year old daughter's concerns. In addition he was very patient with my plethora of questions. I had to wait over 1 hour past the scheduled appointment time to see Dr. Kaufmann. He has a very poor bedside manner. I thought he was mean and I have heard the same from others.
