About this business

Our Business Goal To educate the general public on the historical geology of the Appalachian Mountains, how they were formed and what can be found here. Doc's Rocks Gem Mine is an Appalachian Mountain based gemstone mining operation. We purchase mine ore by the ton from local gemstone mines located in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. We then randomly shovel the ore into buckets and resell it to the general public. Since we don't intentionally put stones into your buckets for you to find, we can't guarantee wh... read more

This place is great! Doc and his staff are very patient and knowledgeable. They have a fantastic collection of gems from NC and all over! When you visit, be sure to check out the museum upstairs to see fantastic stones, fossils and dinosaurs!

Great place! Went there several times while my daughter attended college there. Very family oriented and friendly. Made you feel like you were one of their own. Had stones cut every time. I think the largest stone was a 13k garnet (not sure of weight). Emerald cut about the size of my thumb nail. Lots of little stones cut too. Have to go back at least once more for another stone to add to my collection and then get a locket to put them in!
