Our Business Goal To educate the general public on the historical geology of the Appalachian Mountains, how they were formed and what can be found here. Doc's Rocks Gem Mine is an Appalachian Mountain based gemstone mining operation. We purchase mine ore by the ton from local gemstone mines located in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. I always have a good time looking for gems and finding them with my family. The staff are real friendly and very knowledgeable.

I went into your store today for some crystals and stones because I lost my dog yesterday. I have shopped here many times before, and your staff is always super friendly. However, the employee that helped me out today has a halo 😇 around her. She had beautiful strawberry hair, and a heart of gold. She helped me around the shop showing me what I needed. We can't say enough good things about Doc and his gem mining. He takes the time to personally explain things. Every trip we do to Blowing Rock we alway stop here several times.
Wonderful selection of fine mineral specimens, jewelry, faceted gemstones, fossils & more. Lapidary services, year-round flume, knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. Many "gem mines" are kind of a rip off. Doc's is as good as you're going to get! They also provide gem buckets of local minerals from Appalachia, which you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. I also really enjoy finding local specimens from North Carolina in the shop! Ray Mine, Crabtree Mine, Ellis Mine, Rist Mine and more!
mom and I had so much fun mining for gems. Will was very helpful and friendly as was the young lady who identified our finds. I didnt get her name though. we will definitely come back next time we are up this way. fun for the whole family
