About this business

Our Business Goal To educate the general public on the historical geology of the Appalachian Mountains, how they were formed and what can be found here. Doc's Rocks Gem Mine is an Appalachian Mountain based gemstone mining operation. We purchase mine ore by the ton from local gemstone mines located in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. We then randomly shovel the ore into buckets and resell it to the general public. Since we don't intentionally put stones into your buckets for you to find, we can't guarantee wh... read more

We’ve been going to Doc’s for years now, but this last trip we had a garnet (found at Doc’s) set into a ring for my mom, and she has been over the moon ever since. I imagine the daily texts about all of the compliments she’s been getting will stop at some point, but I doubt we’ll be able to convince her to take it off at any point in the near future. The quality was better than we could have imagined, and the service was sublime - as always.

Every year we go to the mountains and Doc’s Rock’s Gem Mine is our first stop. We love seeing what all we get in our buckets. The staff is very knowledgeable about the gems and has been wonderful. We have had several cut and some made into jewelry. Each piece has been beautiful. This is a tradition our family loves and will continue!!!!

We took our 11 year old son and 15 year old daughter to Doc’s Rocks Gem Mine because we thought they would enjoy it. As it turns out my husband and I really enjoyed it too! It is definitely something the whole family can do. The gems we took home were beautiful. The staff at Doc’s were friendly as well as very informative and helped us identify each gem we brought home. We got the pail called The Mother Lode which took us about 25-30 minutes to go through and in the end we even discovered a geode! There is also a very intere... read more
