About this business

Mechanic-turned-grillmaster Gene Porter turns out Southern barbecue and down-home ambiance in the land of high technology. Dixie's optional "The Man" sauce is about as hot as sauce comes, so go easy; meals have been ruined here by unwary applications. The already spicy, already delicious barbecue doesn't really need the boost. Order Ribs, Chicken or a Brisket Sandwich with Southern diner sides like beans and rice, potato salad, baked beans and corn bread. And don't forget iced tea to soothe the burn. This place can draw a cr... read more

Yuppy Abuse – Dixie's is good. I too have "Met the man." but the sauce goes beyond flavorful and just becomes an exercise in masochism. Top that off with the verbal abuse (humorous - of course) that is heaped on the primarily yuppie crowd, and the culinary experience takes a back seat.

Decent food, unnaceptable attitude – The food is ok, maybe good at times. Here's the deal though... the people who work the register and the serving area, are generally rude and disrespectful. If I want good Barbecue, I go to Milt's, or Acropolis Pizza in Kirkland... they have some really, really nice bbq ribs!... and they are nice, normal nice.

I met the Man, AAAOOOH – This place is for people that want the in your face, great taste, smoking tongue, sitting on a picnic bench, watching the people at the next table meet the man kind of place. All those people that want two forks, two spoons, wine, and actual waiter/waitress, 5 star, 100$ plates should go somewhere else. I recommend the Beef Brisket sandwich and the Red Beans and rice, if you meet the man and eat the sauce, make sure to have a handful of peanuts and lemon cake to put out the fire. If you can't handle ... read more

Stick with sea food – When I first moved to Seattle, being from Texas, everyone wanted to take me to eat BBQ to get my opinion as a Texan. The first place they took me was Dixie's. Supposedly Lousiana BBQ...yeah right!! At best the "chopped beef" sandwich I ordered could be called a spicey Sloppy Joe. The sauce was spicey that's about all I took from my experience. Had any of my friends from South of Mason and Dixon's line come up I would've been embarassed to take them to Dixie's. Those visiting the Emerald City should just... read more

at least try it – Dixie's is an experience. It's not for all those snobby seattlites expecting great service and white linen. you drive up to see a HUGE line if business attired people from bellevue waiting in line to get into a small car garage, where you wait in line and get your food and sit down at make-shift tables. then the man comes around and you gotta try it or if you are a wimp, at least laugh at the other people trying it, its fun. i wouldn't say its the best barbeque i've ever had, cuz that is what my Dad is for,... read more

The boy – The food was okay at best, but the service killed everything. There was no service nor was there anything resembling a restaurant. The "man" sauce as it was advertised is nasty, no flavor or anything just really hot. The BBQ sauce that everything is slapped full of, is just there to cover up the nasty bbq. It too is funky sauce. no flavor what so ever. Jones in Seattle is about the only decsent BBQ we have.

You gotta meet "the man"!! – The lines are long if you don't get there by noon but the wait is worth it. If you get a chance to meet "the man" do it a little at a time as he will bite you.

This place is da man! – Deal with the lines and you're in heaven. Great food, at a good price, fabulous atmosphere (nothing is better than watching the person in front of you get snapped at a'la Seinfeld and the Soup Nazi)... A must try.
