bad service – good food but very poor service. One waiter even roll their eyes at you if you ask them for something else like a different kind of take out box. Told the cashier but they did not seem to care. Glad there is now competition at first bbq restaurant.
Great Chinese Food – This is some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. The service may be poor, but the food is delicious. It is best to go with 5-6 people and get different dishes and share family style. Some of my favorites are: the bbq pork, the beef with green onions, sesame chicken, the shrimp ball, the hot and sour soup, and the milk fish. It may be different than chinese food that you are used too, but I think it is some of the best I have ever had.
This IS Chinese food – Tell the waiter everything that you want and need when s/he takes order--they become scarce thanks to the large dining area filled with patrons. Not a romantic place in the traditional sense, but if you and your date enjoy experimenting and trying new places, then this is the place for you! CRAB MEAT WITH FISH MAW soup has a clean and oceanic taste (the "fish maw" is the swim bladder of a fish). BBQ PORK AND ROAST DUCK is a real treat, but know beforehand that duck is quite fatty. the best Chinese food in Austin – My Dad's family is all Chinese, so I know a thing or two about Chinese home cooking. This place has everything you could want, even a pretty tasty sesame chicken for your Americanized Chinese food fans. For those in search of authentic Chinese, order the gai lan, any of the clay-cooked dishes, and roast duck and pork. The wonton soup is phenomenal, with shrimp-packed dumplings in a positively ethereal chicken broth with ginger. Love the food, ignore the shoddy decor and curt service.
Tucked away in an Asian market, this place is brimming with people who know Chinese food. – In Short This is a charming place that diverges slightly from your classic, homey Chinese restaurant. There's an enormous television set in the east corner of the restaurant.. The large space is usually packed, yet unhurried. The hot and sour soup comes in a mammoth bowl. The prawns with special salt prove crunchy. The Chinese beef will gently dissolve in your mouth with hardly any assistance from teeth.
Austin's best Chinese food, hand's down! – I grew up in South East Asia and Din Ho is the only place in town that totally satisfies my Chinese food craving! Sure the service is not great (tho' there are several courteous wait staff - they're not all bad), the floors eternally sticky, and don't peer under the furniture if you know what's best for you... :) But we eat there at least 2-3 times a month and we've never gotten sick off the food, which is more than I can say for many other restaurants. The Sizzling Beef is my husba... read more
Great Food – This is truly the place for Excellant Chinese. Oh sure the service lacks and the place could use a good cleaning, but the Food is Fresh and as real as you get here in Austin. Try the Walnut Shrimp for a spectacular taste treat. The Sesame Chicken was also noteworthy.
Good...for AUSTIN – Like the title says. I'm from Houston (great Chinatown), and I'm Chinese, so of course I'm a little picky about these things. But it's definitely the best I've had, since I'm not very fond of Americanized-Chinese. The service is rather bad though; I don't know if it's because we're only college kids or what, but they were a little rude to me and my friends.
Best in Town – I have been to Din Ho several times and have never been let down. There's an absolutely HUGE selection of food to choose from, and the best part is that they're open until 1am. If you haven't had authentic Chinese food (probably the majority of Austin) you will be in for a pleasant surprise. The food and ambiance made me feel like I was back in New York's Chinatown
