Country Cat Dinner House & Bar

About this business

One of the most popular restaurants in the city, The Country Cat Dinner House & Bar is perpetually buzzing with energy. There is something immensely likable about this eatery, starting from the strange mosaic cat that greets you at the door, right down to the fantastic home-style food. The daily brunch is one of the drawing cards, and it is quite easy to see why; who would turn down offerings like Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, smoked Steelhead Eggs Benedict and vegetarian white bean chili? Offerings like Red wine braised beef and ... read more

Great food, great drinks and great service – My husband and I went there for my birthday. We had planned to go to Portland City Grill, but the review for it only highlited the view, and being French the food for me is more important than some city view ( that I can see from OHSU anyway). Driving by these restaurant to go to work, we decided to give it a try and we were very pleased. My hubby is very difficult for his food and wanted to order the hmaburger; but in the last effort he ordered the Hog plate that he completely fi... read more

Disappointed – The first time we ate at The Country Cat (last July) it was delightful. I loved the range of flavors and the skillful execution of my meal. I took my kids there last night and it was quite a different experience. There was still a nice variety of items on the menu and as a vegetarian I really appreciate that there is more than one choice for me among all the meat. My autumn crostada had a lovely filling but the crust was tough and overcooked. Its burned taste overpowered the delicate filling of sweet winter ve... read more

We love this spot! – Fantastic place to bring your kids...food is perfectly cooked and moderately priced. The owners are unbelievably warm and gracious. It's far from our house but SO worth the drive! Keep up the good work.

Casual, good, friendly – Restaurants with open kitchens are a welcome trend in my book. Country Cat delivers on good food expertly prepared in front of you (if you're sitting at the bar). Sort of a live Hell's Kitchen, but without the yelling and crying. Staff is friendly, too. It's a bit out of the way for me but worth driving to.

Like Your Home – Went here with a few of my friends and I had the heritage burger and apple pandowdy. I was pretty impressed with their menu as they have comfort foods and other things that you wouldn't normally find on other menus. Definitely going to be back their. And I suggest to try out the apple pandowdy! I'm a fan and I would suggest it to anyone who is looking for something not too expensive, but good tasting food.

A break from home – What is there not to like about The Country Cat! I discovered this amazing place wandering the street with friends one night. Upon entering, the ambiance soothed my soul. The music was great, the staff beautiful and did I mention the food? The lamb meat ball is to die for, the jerky is made by the owner himself and the ever changing ravioli appetizer is always a a mouth watering anticipation. Three words ?fresh, local, real?. I?m not kidding folks. If ever a place to indulge your pallet it is here. I have... read more

The Country Cat - my refuge in Portland – In the currently saturated Portland restaurant scene there are those rare gems that stand out as Sequoian Redwoods among a sea of mediocre bushes and scrub. The Country Cat is such a towering refuge where eagles can land to savor a succulent meal. Not claiming to be an Eagle myself, I still managed to spy this little slice of heaven while on my many travels. I was in the neighborhood, hungry, and the scent of down home fried chicken drew me in. Do you know how tedious and difficult i... read more

Who needs pork? – I know that pork is their specialty, but I can't imagine that it could be as good as the smoked duck or the arctic char (a fish similar to salmon and trout) that we ordered. The duck was served with apricots - an incredible combination. The char was served with fava beans, fennel, cucumber, and orange. It was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. We will have to go back to try one of their signature pork dishes.

No one I've recommended Country Cat to has been disappointed. They always thank me. – One of my favorite things to do in Portland is to get a counter seat at The Country Cat and watch them do what they do very well on a busy night. Everyone?s very friendly on both sides of the counter. Adam and his team prepare delicious fare, and I generally always find myself in a great conversation with some of the patrons. I think the burger (with cheese they melt in a pan and then pour on top) is amazing, and coupled with a gigantic mou... read more
