About this business

In keeping with the typical cookshop concept of all-things-fresh, co-owners of Cookshop, Chef Marc Meyer and Chef Vicki Freeman, source local ingredients and produce for their food preparation. To bring out the best taste from the natural food, traditional methods such as wood-fired ovens are used. The Virginia farmers’ cross center cut pork chop and the wilted spinach, red onion and Sarvecchio cheese pizza are favorites here. The cocktails are innovative concoctions with a twist that change with the season. Try the te... read more

Nice folks good drinks, very nice atmosphere.... – I just wish the food were more consistant. You like something, have a hankering, return to have it again and are disappointed. The fried chicken liver salad with frisee was amazing, decent steak but everything else was shaky. The people are truly nice and for such a "hip" restaurant, it is incredibly refreshing to be greeted by doorpeople who are friendly and nice, as opposed to forbidding social x-rays. Maybe the uneven food is due to the overwhemingly good reception and it... read more

Great Brunch in a Well Lit Space – As I followed the hostess to the table, I took my usual scan around the room to see what my fellow diners were having. The Huevos Rancheros was by far the most popular, so of course I had my bf order that while I ordered the Duck Confit Salad. I have a weakness for duck confit, so if it's on the menu, I'm having it. We were not disappointed! The Huevos Rancheros was the fave - portion was rather large so it worked out sharing that w/ a salad b/w 2 people. The duck was nice and crisp - green... read more

Great Food – The food is great. Prepared with the best ingredients, and beautifully served. Friendly and knowledgable staff. The only problem for me is the location is a little bit out of my way, however worth the trip.

worth a try – i dine out A LOT, and i must say that i enjoyed myself. the food is worth the money and good--and knowing the philosophy behind it makes it that much better. it's an understated space, but i think that's the charm of it. our waitress could have been a little more plesant, but she was definitely attentive, always checking on us...and visited the bar for us frequently. overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. what's more: it's a short distance from billy's bakery, so save room for cupcakes.

Dare I Say Boring? – Went to Cookshop a few weeks ago. I liked the dark lighting and the place was nicely decorated for fall, good atmosphere. The food however was just really nothing special. Fried hominy was yummy but I dined with two others and no one was in love with the entrees (pork chop, steak, and scallops - which prob got the best review). Desserts were better but not enough to make up for a bland experience. Tried it once, don't need to go back.

not amazing – the restaurant is decent, but not remarkable. the food was just okay and the service was pretty weak. for the price, there are so many other places to enjoy.

A lovely night out – This was one of the best dining experiences that my husband and I have had in some time. Not to jump on the band-wagon, but we also had Raymond as our server and he certainly lived up to the hype. He was friendly, funny, and attentive. The real star of the evening, however, was the food. We started with the hominy and a salad of butter lettuce, bacon, and blue cheese that was to die for. For the main course, we went with Raymond's recommentations and my husband ordered the pork and I went with the duck. ... read more

Dark and Noisy – Food not bad, if overpriced. Any pleasure from the food was ruined by the extremely loud conditions, near darkness, and eccentric, erratic service. Good view of multi-level parking garage - coincidentally the only source of light.

GOOD FOOD, ALONG WITH SOME WEIRDNESS – We went there about 6:15 on a Tuesday night and it was almost completely empty. The host told us they had many reservations for 7:00, so he could only seat the two of us at the bar. We complied, and actually had a lovely dinner with attentive service. But when we left a little after 8:00, I counted four empty tables for two, and was just curious what that was all about. I'll go back, but was a bit put off by the situation.
