In keeping with the typical cookshop concept of all-things-fresh, co-owners of Cookshop, Chef Marc Meyer and Chef Vicki Freeman, source local ingredients and produce for their food preparation. To bring out the best taste from the natural food, traditional methods such as wood-fired ovens are used. The Virginia farmers’ cross center cut pork chop and the wilted spinach, red onion and Sarvecchio cheese pizza are favorites here. The cocktails are innovative concoctions with a twist that change with the season. Try the te... read more

Great Lunch, Didn't Love the Service – My mom and I went here for an impromptu lunch today because we were nearby, heading to another restaurant but stopped here instead. I loved the menu choices because of the seasonality of the ingredients - my mom had eggplant lasagne and I had a pizza with summer squash, ricotta, chili flakes and lemon oil. The food was lovely and I appreciated the little dish of coarse salt and our own pepper grinder at the table as well. Thank goodness the meal was a pleasure because the environment an... read more
Some inventive dishes but too inconsistent – I've been here twice and was disappointed both times. The food is unpredictable. The starters are generally more exciting than the main courses. Vegetarian dishes are particularly poor and the desserts don't taste fresh. Not worth the money.
It's okay. – Just okay. I was really looking forward to it, and it let me down. We did get seated quickly; we had nice cocktails; we weren't rushed out on a Saturday night. The service was fine and not overbearing, but also somewhat absent when we needed something. We had a bottle of wine that was nicely priced considering that it is usually hard to find. The food was a big let down. Four people ordered four different starters and four different mains. None stood out; all were a bit bland. The mains are about $10 overpriced ... read more
Great Brunch – I'm sorry to see bad reviews of Cookshop because I had a great brunch there yesterday. The service was impeccable, the restaurant while basic, is charming and god love them they leave enough room between tables that you can get in and out comfortably without disturbing other diners - a rarity in NYC. My friend and I had reservations and were seated promptly(though only when the whole party was there) and our server was very attentive and lovely. We started with the beignets and not quite what i was expecting t... read more
Very salty food; shoddy service – I was really hoping for a lot more, given my positive experiences at Five Points. In my opinion, Cookshop is a more expensive version with lower quality food and service. In general, the food was extremely oversalted (the sausage appetizer, chicken entree) and not noteworthy at all. The service was highly disappointing, our server was inattentive and acted like she was too good for her job. She was nowhere to be found until we got our check... as soon as I signed the credit card slip, she sw... read more
Terrible service – I was really looking forward to lunch at cookshop after reading great reviews on citysearch and zagat. I love that the menu is seasonal, local, and often organic. Unfortunately, the food was the only redeeming quality of the meal. We were stuck at a cramped table against the wall. No one remembered to bring us bread or refill our water, and our waiter didn't check on us once after we placed our order. We even had to flag down the manager to get our bill and get out of there! I liked my carrot soup and scal... read more
Love this place, rain or shine – This relative newcomer has become among the top choices for me in the area. The street suddenly became really trendy, and the all windows place has a nice view of the street. Inside the food is a dream - good cooking that feels like comfort food - american classics done really well and inventive. The staff is always friendly, service is always great. You really can't go wrong, though you may not get a table.
A good meal in this city is always overpriced – Why is any decent meal in NYC so overpriced? (And I'm from NY) This was a nice place and the food was good, but as other's said, nothing that special. The staff is WAY too pretentious!!! They act like it's the Gramercy Tavern. If that's the level they're striving for, then they have a lot of work to do. There was 2 of us; We each had one entree with one alcoholic beverage and the bill was $100 with tip. I had a nice meal and would eat there again if I had to, but I'm not rushin... read more
Best restaurant in the neighborhood! – I live in Chelsea and frequent Cookshop often.I love that the menu changes all the time. That way there's always something new and interesting to try. Joel(the amazingly talented chef) uses foods that are in peak season, and he always manages to combine the most interesting flavors and textures. I ate there today and had a beautiful piece of swordfish served over deliciously grilled pieces of squash. It was topped off with a wildy tasty tomato chutney. The fish was so moist, and the squash... read more
