Editorial fromSet in the space that was Craftsteak, Tom Colicchio's eponymous eatery has one sure thing going for it: the Top Chef host claims he'll be in the kitchen actually cooking your meal---that is, when he's not taping Top Chef or any other TV…

Cold steaks, bland sides – This was such a disappointment. The shrimp cocktail was just OK, with shrimp that had a slightly sweet taste and cocktail sauce that was very, very mild. We both got filet mignon ordered medium. Note: they serve all steaks presliced unless you ask them not to -- which we did. One came out medium, the other one on the rare side of medium-rare. The steaks were just warm -- not at all hot. The potato gratin was underseasoned and needed salt and pepper. Salt and pepper shakers are not on the tables and... read more
Best steak on the planet – i was fortunate enough to visit craftsteak on a very romantic date with my boyfriend so perhaps this is why i found the restaurant to be so amazing. we had the Wagyu Kobe and it was simply like warm butter melting in your mouth. the portions were big and the sides became a bit overwhelming as they turned out to be too large for just two people. (we ordered onion rings, fries and a mixed lettuce salad). our waitress was very helpful and knowledgable on the choice of meats and wine. she ultimately he... read more
good, but not worth the splurge – Was invited here for a birthday dinner and after reading reviews, I was a little apprehensive. Once you walk thru the doors, you find this huge space that is dark and sleek; not what you expect at a steakhouse, it looks more like a lounge. Unfortunately my friends made the reservation last minute and we could only get in at 9:15pm on a Wednesday night which meant no booth seating for us but the table we sat at was just fine though the table smelled a little like a damp towel? Whatever, by 9:... read more
Overrated and overpriced. – Went with my boyfriend last week and we both agreed it was a bit overrated and overpriced. The steak was cold, not even room temperature. Steak for two, sides, couple drinks and dessert for $300? It was not a bad meal, I was just underwhelmed with the quality of the meat. Everything else was good though, but not worth the price they are charging.
Great sides and atmosphere...disappointing steak – The sides at Craftsteak are incredible, especially the mushrooms and pearl onions. Well, actually, all of the sides are incredible (at least the ones we had). As is the dessert (the monkey bread and red velvet cake, especially). Disappointing steak though. It comes out pre-sliced, which I found marginally strange and unexpected. And to be honest, the steak just was not amazing. Strip House is much better for steak. The space itself is very impressive and the service was righ... read more
great atomosphere, food could have been better – The decor in this place is amazing, 30 ft ceilings, great cool booths, however the important thing being the steak was not as good as I thought it would be. We love the other Craft restaurants. My wife and I went with another couple and the 2 guys shared a porterhouse for 2. It was not as good as many of the othe high-end places around and it was expensive. My wife ordered 1 of the 2 fish on the menu and it was not available. She ended up with the salmon that was just ok. We t... read more
Beautiful Room with Disappointing food. – The decor and room design were beautifuill. Unfortuntely, that was all that was great about Craftsteak. The Lobster Bisque soup was too creamy with a piece of small lobster thrown in as an after thought. The Mashed Potatoes were so watery that you had to eat them like soup. We decided to order the best and most expensive steak on the menu to experience the premium item the restaurant had to offer. We had the Wagyu sliced Filet Minon at $20/OUNCE. ($200.00 for our 10 ounce piece.) It ... read more
Tom Colicchio's Finest Creation – My wife and I dined at Craft early this year, and were impressed with everything about that restaurant. Last night we went to Craftsteak, and could not believe that it was even better then Craft! The cuts of meat are some of the finest either of us has ever had (the corn-fed filet and venison were otustanding), and as always, the wine list is top notch as well. My wife enjoyed the glazed donuts for dessert, and althought that might sound simple, they are anything but. When I asked her who th... read more
Service - Food Excellent – Yes it Expensive. But the Food and the great service made for a fantastic experience. The staff knew when my girlfriend arrived, escorted her to my space at the bar, professionally took my drink I had ordered from hand and place on tray and transferred my bar bill. this it the type of attentive and professional service that makes a fine restaurant (aside from the food). It was just done - I did not have to ask. looking forward to going back.
