Coal Vines Pizza

4.3

About this business

Coal Vines is a fantastic restaurant/wine bar in the heart of Uptown. With its coal-burning oven, this is probably the closest you will come to authentic New York pizza. The menu includes such delectable items as Pizzas, Spiced Salmon Salad, Salad Pies, which are served cold and by the slice, Eggplant Milanese Sandwich, Veal & Pepper Rolls, and amazing deserts like Tiramisu Float. Wine is available by the glass or bottle. The décor is upscale and it's easy to forget that everything on the menu is cheap.

Worse Staff in Dallas, They are very Rude – This place could be good, but the people working there are the nastiest people in Dallas. They just want your money. They watch you very intensely to kick you out once they think you are done eating. Very rude and uncaring people, go to Fireside Pies or Nona instead.

Abrupt service and they rushed us out!!! – This is a cozy place with limited and cramped seating not allowing for much personal conversation. The pizza is good and the wine selection is ok but the customer service is sub-par. They asked for our dessert order before we finished our meal, when we opted not to do dessert the check arrived at our table before our plates had been removed. The service was very abrupt and we were "hawked" and rushed to leave the restaurant before we could finish our wine. They clearly wanted us out... read more

Good Food, Dine out or don't dine at all. – Having dined at several pizza places in Dallas, I would probably not go back to Coal Vines unless my other choices were not available - for dine in. The evening started off alright until when we were forced to valet when we parked on an adjacent street, which was clearly open and another business lot. After prompt seating in what seemed like the aisle, we ordered and got our pizza fairly quickly. We were checked on once throughout the meal and seemed to be forgotten after that. The... read more

Overrated and Rushed Upscale Pizza Establishment – I am a foodie but my boyfriend has more selective taste buds (aka a picky eater) so when a new upscale pizza restaurant opens up its a win-win for both of us...until we tried Coal Vines on a double date with another couple. We aren't chintzy when it comes to ordering food, so if you think the rude service was due to lack of $ amount on the meal you are mistaken. All 4 had appetizers, salads, multiple drinks, entrees... courses were rushed together, the glasses of wine barely... read more

good pizza, long wait – we only ordered 1 pizza btw 2 of us, but it was very good. we got the marina pizza and it was better than i thought, considering it had no cheese. the sauce was excellent and the crust was right on, albeit a little burnt. overall, a very good pizza. i have to warn u that if u order this pizza, it comes with raosted whole cloves of garlic. it's great for someone who likes garlic, like me, but not so much for others. the only gripe i have is that we had to wait a while to be seated. they have a patio ar... read more

Yo Adriene you gotta try Coal Vines – Coal Vines is truely authentic New York style pizza. The atmosphere is New York all the way. If you have ever been to a pizza joint in New York you would certainly understand the close proximatey of the tables. As for the wait I say this, "You know it must be over the top delicious if you have to wait that long to get in." I have been there once and would say it is by far and large the best pizza I have had since moving to Dallas 2 years ago. Outstanding food and the hospitality is grade... read more

Great Restaurant – Anyone that doesn't think this place is anything but tops is probably working for the competition. My wife and I go here at least three times a month and can't say enough good things about it. Yes the wait can be a while you know that going in so I don't know how you hold that against the restaurant. Oh and while you wait you are able to have a glass of wine or beer right in front of the restaurant or sit at the bar. The owner, whose name escapes me, makes a point of saying hello to every patron, now that ... read more

Great atmosphere, and good wine selection! – I LOVED this place. It's a bit of a mob scene right around 7ish, but if you don't mind waiting for a table then your fine. Because while you are waiting you can enjoy a glass of wine, either at the bar or outside. The service was great and so was the food. I would highly recommend Cole Vines for a first date or group outing. Very fun and friendly staff.

AVOID ALTOGETHER – Coal Vines has great pizza if it's done right, which is not often. The pizza is extremely inconsistent. Fifty percent of the time you may get what you ordered if your lucky. If you happen to order your pizza to go, be sure you check it before you leave. If it is not right be prepared to wait an additional 20-30 minutes. I'd rather order a mediocre pizza that has the toppings I ordered rather than wait. I don't know where the miscommunication is but it is definitely a problem. Don't expectt any sympathy fro... read more
