The Cave of the Mounds is one of the most significant caves in the Midwest of the United States. The cave was believed to have formed nearly a million years ago, while the limestone encrustations around it are said to date back over 488 million years to the Ordovician Period. A million years old! Very interesting place to visit, especially because it is so unique and there are not a lot of places in the United States that are like this. My kids are 6, 8 and 11. They enjoyed themselves too.
We are from St. Louis. We visited yesterday during a break from our hockey tournament in Madison and this place was awesome! My boys, 5 and 11, as well as my husband and kept saying how cool this place was!
Very cool the tour was great the guide was very knowledgeable and nice
Love visiting here! The kids never get tired of going on the tour. The surrounding gardens are also a must visit in warmer weather. Lots of great extra events as well, check out their calendar @
I had the best time visiting Cave of the Mounds with my daughter for her field trip. It brought back so many memories from going there as a kid. Even though it was freezing cold it was a blast!! Our tour guide Sarah was amazing!!! Thank you for a great day!!!
