The Cave of the Mounds is one of the most significant caves in the Midwest of the United States. The cave was believed to have formed nearly a million years ago, while the limestone encrustations around it are said to date back over 488 million years to the Ordovician Period. I love visiting Cave of the Mounds. It doesn't matter what time of year I go. It always is an enjoyable adventure.
Great trip, easy to find and loads of parking. Very knowledgeable tour guide. Will go again!
Being from illinois, there's not really any caves to go to around here. My girlfriend took a roadtip just for the Cave of the Mounds and we LOVED IT. The tour was a blast, the minerals were amazing, and I got some excellent photography done here! Makes me want to explore more caves around the US. A big thank you to all of the people who keep the Cave love going!
