Cassell’s Hamburgers first opened its doors in the year 1948. An iconic LA tradition for several years, this bustling burger joint had a modest start in a small place. It now occupies Hotel Normandie, a historic property on the other end of Koreatown. This place was not worth a 15.00 burger with not even French fries.
I started going to Cassell's in 1970. Hats off to these guys the burgers are just the same and the potato salad too.!i actually miss the cottage cheese with canned fruit maybe make it an a la carte item; has that old time feeling. To the complainers Al never served fries only the last owner did. Al would be proud to be memorialized this way - good job.
When I moved to L.A. in 1983 I lived a block away from Cassell's and immediately became a regular. I was bummed when it closed a few years ago. Thank you Christian for bringing back and replicating the taste of the original burgers and potato salad I love!
The location is great. It feels like an old school grease pit but it's only a disguise. The food is fresh and cooked to perfection. I had the tuna melt and it was excellent with just the right amount of crunch on the toasted rye bread. The potatoe salad side that came with the sandwich was suprisingly tasty. I ended my meal with what I can only describe as a smores pie with a hint of mint. The devil himself must have baked it in the 8 plane of hell....evil I tell you.
