The tavern that rose from two fires to be the oldest restaurant in all of the town, is worth going to see based on History alone. The food, too, is a delicious range of traditional, home-cooked fare, made from scratch. The buffet menu offers a different variety of dishes each day and the numerous pies for dessert are a truly mouthwatering end to the meal. There is an event hall that seats up to 150 people. You can also pick up a couple of souvenirs to remember the trip from the small shop before you leave.

so i thought today for mothers day i take my wife out for dinner at Breitbachs Country Dinner in Balltown iowa . we drive the hour and a half sometimes because we love the great country buffet food . so i checked the facebook page and they open till 10 pm . we arrive there around 5.30 barely any cars in the parking lot . we get out of the car and a gentleman ask us u guys here for food i replied yes he said . they closed they had so much going on today at lunchtime they closed at 4.30pm ... what a bummer ... disappointed
The food was very good but attention by the waiter in telling the history of the place in detail and the time that the owner took to stop at my table just to welcome and ask about me, made the whole experience exceptional and unique. I will definitely return! ...oh, and the view surrounding this tiny treasure in northeastern Iowa just adds to a perfect choice for an afternoon or evening getaway.
RecommendedMy husband and I both had the prime rib tonight and it was delicious with plenty to take home, too. Salad bar also very good!

The buffet was awesome with loads of home cooked food ! Saw a few people eating the prime rib and wished I would have ordered that instead . Oh well I will just have to come back again Also the wine tasting shop just outside is worth stopping at .
We travelled from NY and it was beyond worth it. JUST DO IT.
