The place was completely gutted in 2006 and was rebuilt again. The restaurant is famous for its wonderful oysters, seafood platter and shrimps. It takes pride in using the freshest ingredients and the catch of the day is always worth trying out. You can also book private parties at this venue.

Awful! We have lived in the Lowcountry for 18 years and have always wanted to try Bowen's Island. My family drove over from Georgia and we arrived an hour early to be the first in line. It was awful! The fried shrimp were small - looked like the bagged shrimp from Harris Teeter that comes from Thailand. Also didn't taste good. The fried oysters were no better. My brother and his class mates from The Citadel are there a lot and introduced us to Bowens years ago. I make it a point to go back every chance I get in memory of him! Amazing food. Stunning views!
Certainly don't understand the appeal, and 5-star reviews, of this restaurant. After walking up a 1/4 mile ramp, my family was first in line to enter the restaurant. We were then directed to go the bar to place our order, then find a table. Each table (and chairs) we went to hadn't been wiped off since the last meal that was served there... last night. View is good. Get there a half hour early. Small selection of seafood and mostly fried. Large portions and cooked properly. It’s not your normal sit down and place Oder restraunt. Atmosphere is great. However, they should have a sign or warn you, fish fillets still have bones in them. Overall it’s a good relaxing atmosphere and decently cooked seafood. Prices are good too.

This was my first time there! Fun environment, friendly staff, and I enjoyed my oysters, shrimp, and crab cake! The view was wonderful as we watched the sunset! I will be going back!
Always the go to place when we visit SC. Absolutely love the fried shrimp platters, the key lime pie was AMAZING, the view is always great. Highly recommend
Definitely worth the wait - even without the oysters!
A little disappointing as pretty much everything was deep fried exvept the shrimp the fish was really tough and we probably left most of it on the plate tbe shrimp was good and to be fair we went adter ths oyster season we probably wont go back
