The entire bar and restaurant is designed in dark, elegant wood with very stylish and comfortable furniture, chairs and booths--even the requisite fireplace--giving it a private club-like feeling. Beautiful multi-hued granite is used for the table tops and the bar, highlighting the overall design. The owner, Brett Anderson, (a lawyer, but we won't hold that against him) has done an excellent job of designing and furnishing the restaurant and has obviously spared no expense. Very good!!
Wonderful food
My first time in Iowa will not be my last! How did we get so lucky? We just happened upon the best steakhouse in Iowa, possibly the best anywhere. Every bite of food, ie. the house salad dressing, the cheesy creamed corn, the onion soup, the bacon wrapped shrimp, and the prime rib was out of this world. The service was also extraordinary and we even had a nice visit with the owner. I do not want to forget this place so it is Facebook posted forever. #desmoines #altoona #thebigsteer
Never had a bad meal here!
My husband and I had dinner there Friday night. It was wonderful, the steak melted on our mouth. The shrimp perfectly cooked. The staff awesome. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.

It’s a little on the small side but that is nothing. Food and service is exceptional ! Great place to eat ! This is what a steakhouse should be, not like Texas Roadhouse, although nothing wrong with that place. This is your local ma and pa place that has to rely on excellence to make it and they’ve gone beyond that
