The entire bar and restaurant is designed in dark, elegant wood with very stylish and comfortable furniture, chairs and booths--even the requisite fireplace--giving it a private club-like feeling. Beautiful multi-hued granite is used for the table tops and the bar, highlighting the overall design. The owner, Brett Anderson, (a lawyer, but we won't hold that against him) has done an excellent job of designing and furnishing the restaurant and has obviously spared no expense. The food and service is amazing. We live in Altoona, but if we didn’t, we would drive miles to dine there! We often have Sunday brunch after church , and no one can compare to the brunch, along with the fresh squeezed orange juice!!!
Steak and shrimp are delicious! The ice cream dessert drinks are really good, the brandy Alexander, mudslide, and grasshopper are my faves. The cheese sticks and mushrooms have a homemade breading and are quite tasty.
Did the call ahead seating, still waited about 30 min once we got there. Food was worth the prices and the wait!
We have gone to Big Steer for years the steak is always good the service is excellent Lowell in the bar is fantastic. the breakfast on Sunday is excellent as well. A favorite of ours.
We ate there last evening Jan 13th, parking lot was full, figured it was going to be a long wait, but wife and I were immediately seated and within 15 minutes we were eating salads & fresh warm bread. We both got the 12 oz prime rib and twice baked potato and all was excellent!! We have always had wonderful service and wonderful food at the Big Steer for many many years!! Highest recommendation I can give.
