An old fashioned diner in the upscale 4th Ave shopping corridor that has excellent breakfasts and lunches. There's always a line waiting to be seated, but not too long a wait if you don't come at peak times. My favorites are the omelettes and their homemade bockwurst, applesauce and potato pancakes.
Flew into Berkeley for a few days and had to visit Bette's. Had a late lunch on a Thursday and no crowds; great turkey BLT with side salad. Came back for breakfast Friday morning and no crowd--had to get their Souffle Pancake (aka a Dutch Baby) with seasonal fruit. It really could be shared but I managed to eat it all! Also bought some copies of her cookbook for xmas presents and had to get a tshirt. Don't know if I'll be this way again.
Best corned beef hash and poached eggs! Perfect atmosphere and service.
