The name's a bit misleading. Not only is there no ocean view, but this is not your ordinary diner. Though it has streamlined aluminum and black-and-white tile, and the fare is inspired by diner cuisine, the ingredients are the freshest available and the dishes are prepared with care and imagination. Great grub!
RecommendedI strolled in for brunch because I was in the neighborhood...never heard of the place. Place is as eclectic as the food was delicious. And if you have a chance, sit at the counter and watch the chefs take pride in what they cook up. Pros at work. Its a sure sign of how good the food will be once it gets to you :)
I stopped into Bette’s, because I knew they made homemade scrapple and I hadn’t tasted it yet. When I broke off a piece and tasted it a flood of memories and feelings came over me. I immediately decided to make a scrapple sandwich 🥪 with the leftover and smothered it with their homemade jam. It reminded me so much of eating scrapple sandwiches in my Grandmother’s house when I was growing up. It was nice to find a little of my childhood here in Cali.
It's super busy and we always have to wait for a table. But it's definitely worth the wait! I highly recommend it. I'd you haven't been there, you need to go. Food, atmosphere, and service are all spot on.
