The name's a bit misleading. Not only is there no ocean view, but this is not your ordinary diner. Though it has streamlined aluminum and black-and-white tile, and the fare is inspired by diner cuisine, the ingredients are the freshest available and the dishes are prepared with care and imagination. RecommendedPleasant. In Berkeley’s Fourth Street shopping corridor, Bette’s breakfasts are imaginative and hearty. It’s busy on weekends, but the ambience is worth it.

😩 Staff is very unprofessional if you are a person of color. Sad that this is a Berkeley establishment.....we lived here as children. Times have changed since the 70's.
after hearing about a friend's racist treatment i will no longer be patronizing this establishment! it makes my blood boil that a (apparently short blonde) waitress put her NASTY HANDS on my african-american friend, treating him like a dog compared to the other white customers. i used to think this place was alright but NOW I KNOW its just a part of the racist gentrification happening in the Bay Area and businesses like these need to go! will be telling all my connects...
Love this place! Excellent service, great ambiance sitting outside, and hands-down the BEST plum muffin I’ve ever had! (Wish I could get my hands on the recipe!) Plus I’ve had their Pancake Handbook for many, many years. It’s my go-to for the best pancake/waffle recipes.
Thank YOU for our great breakfast. We will be back.
