Thank you so much for your help today!! I'm not sure if it's a Crow or Raven, but I'm grateful that you got a volunteer here so quickly!! When any creature looks you in the eye with so much fear and pain it just melts my heart. I'm praying she/he gets its wing fixed and will be okay. At least now I know there's at least a chance of survival...without you there wouldn't have been. Thank you!!!!

A volunteer came to check on an injured gull, I suspected it could not fly as one of his wings did not seem to work well. She saw the bird fly a bit so apparently it was relatively OK. Over a weekend this bird had gotten worse, possibly clipped by a plow. It had an obvious problem now, a broken wing. I became very concerned for this bird which was now "grounded" and would be lucky to evade a fox in the area. The very cold weather made things even worse. Many thanks to the folks at Avian Haven! For a little over a month, we've had a Turkey Vulture who missed his ride south, for the winter. I spotted him this morning out by our garage and luckily, we were able to confine him in our carport, until Terry, from Avian Haven, was able to get here. To my amazement, Terry simply went up to the bird, picked him up and brought him to the carrier in his truck, all in less than 5 minutes! From Peregrine Falcon rescue to crow teenager to gulls...always there...
We called Avian Haven about a blue jay with a broken wing. Sadly, it passed away before we could hand it off to be transported. Despite this, I can't say enough about Kim, who answered the phone there, and Alan, the volunteer who really comforted me and reassured us we did the best we could for this little guy. Thanks to all who do this difficult but critical work and also help to educate us about how to best care for our feathered friends.
