The poppies are beautiful, but they aren't only in the reserve. After about a 2 hour drive and parking, we were only at the reserve for an hour. The reserve is perfect for hikers with a few places for folks to picnic. But the area is very hilly and does not accommodate the disabled, and neither does it provide enough bathrooms for the volume of folks who visit...many who clearly pic away the flowers nearest the trails. It is a must see in the SoCal area during the last weeks of March and through the month of April. Like Cherry Blossum time in Japan. This year is beginning to look glorious with the colors of orange, yellow and blue popping out all over the Antelope Valley floor. And you don't have to get into the park to enjoy the bounty of Mother Nature.
It was beautiful! Was there April 2 Sunday 2017, little windy but no complaints kept the bugs away. Amazing the color of the flowers. The staff friendly helpful & nice.
