We had a great time sight seeing around the mountains of the reserve as it was extremely packed at the actual reserve. I was sad to see that not everyone is conscious about how fragile the poppies and ended up stepping o mm them, sitting on them, laying on them and cutting them, which is illegal. I hope we spread the word around and make everyone aware of this. Yes, we all go to enjoy the beautiful scenery and to post the one picture on social media but let's be conscious and considered about nature.
I visited on a Sunday (April 2). My recommendation, especially for the weekends, is to get there as early as you can. We left Ventura County at 430am, and pulled into the parking lot at 640am. Parking is $10, and it wasn't manned....so be sure to have the exact change. Enjoyed a relatively uncrowded hike around the eastern part of the park.
