UPDATE: It has been quite awhile since the original review below, and I'm happy to report things have improved markedly. Maybe it's our distance now from covid and its attendant staffing challenges, don't know, but the operation seems to be running much more smoothly the past year or two. Wait time was almost 2 hours before I was seen. Staff were outwardly rude about being asked about the timing. Once seen, the staff member asking me questions was mean, condescending, and spiteful towards me, getting to the point of asking “where are you from?” and “well you don’t sound like you are from here.” The Red Cross is a great organization, donate at any other site that will respect you and your time.

I've donated blood here several times and they always seem very disorganized. If you are looking to donate blood, NIH has a very well run blood Bank in Bethesda on their big campus. Today I came, and the wait time even if you had an appointment was 1 hour. They are apparently understaffed. Whole blood goes for about $300 a pint on the wholesale market and we are here donating out of our own kindness and to make the experience so inconvenient boggles my mind. Came in for a scheduled visit and saw a sign saying there was a one hour wait time. No notice or anything until you're already here. Someone else got up and left saying they had already waited well over an hour. Please don't schedule people if you can't stick to a schedule.
