Mexican with a different twist! – This is a fun little alternative place in Silverlake. A fun, relaxed environment - a little funky hipster but fine for families & couples, all the same. Bring your own beer/wine. Cash only. Not open Sunday. It's not traditional/authentic Mexican food. However, the meals are well-prepared and delicious! Interesting new dishes and flavors. The mole is excellent, although a bit expensive for the small bowl. Yummy tortillas. Vegetarian friendly. Worth the drive from the westside for a different ... read more

LOVE IT – Absolutely adore this place. Staff is always friendly, food is always great! Great value for the price, and food somehow feels more healthy than most Mexican restaurants. Love the carnitas and fresh juices. The salsa fresca with cut cucumbers is addicting. This place is always a cute cozy, low key place. Just don't forget your cash...the nearest ATM is a few blocks away. WISH YOU GUYS WERE OPEN ON SUNDAYS!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE: Can't get enough!! – This is one of our favorite restaurants EVER-- in LA or elsewhere... My husband and I have been frequenting Alegria at least once a week for the past five years and have been known to have it twice in one day. My girlfriend and I refer to their Veggie Burritos as crack-burritos because we are seriously addicted! The staff is amazing- always warm, easy-going and fun- and the atmosphere is the same. Random Sunset Blvd. strip mall and Day of the Dead decor-- you'd never know unless you kno... read more

Best Authentic Mexican Food – The brightest gem hides...in a strip mall. People, this place is fantastic. As you will slowly begin to realize, the Fat Guy loves food. I love the experience of eating out. I have been known to love a place because it creates an event even if the food is mediocre...Alegria fits the bill. Unassuming and simple. These guys can cook. The pozole was the best that I have had since I was in Mexico...Flavorful, hearty, and belly warming. I had a steak (skirt, I think) that was just bursting with flavo... read more

Best Mexican Food in L.A. – This a wonderful gem tucked in a small strip mall in the Silver Lake area. Food is amazing. I have never had anything like this and thinking about just make my mouth water for their Pollo en Mole and chicken enchiladas. I also highly recommend the tacos con cream, hard shell taquitos filled with potatos top with fresh salsa and creme fraiche (yum!). Entrees run from $10 to $15 and portions are huge. It is BYOB and no corkage fee. I recommend getting there early so you can put your name down on the... read more

Silver Lake rockers and studio employees crowd this strip-mall eatery for home-style Mexi-Cali fare. – In Short This homey, unassuming enclave is decorated with colorful arts-and-craft items from Mexico and the Southwest. Like the decor, the cuisine is a mixture of regional fare and Southwest flourishes. Burritos, fish tacos, carne asada and other standards are joined by dishes that employ mole or salsa verde. The chimichanga de chocolate--a deep-fried, tortilla-wrapped almond Hershey bar dusted with powdered sugar--is a des... read more

Healthy Mexican food – Don't let the run down shopping mall that Alegria is housed in fool you, this tiny place is actually serves some of the best Cali- Mex food in LA. The portions are pretty decent size and the food is healthy and lite-- this is not a place for burritos drenched in beans and cheese. Try the Jason's burrito-- awesome!

Best Menudo – Best menudo in Los Angeles. Just like my grandma used to make. Perfect blend of tripe, homony and spices. Delicious. I go there just for the menudo. I have been to other places where they make menudo and they tend to make it too salty. Alegria gets it just right. Better get there early on Saturdays though, I have went there and they sell out of the menudo if you get there too late.

Love this place – A bunch of us have been going to Alegria recently after our Tuesday night training run and I love it!! Besides having awesome food, this place has the BEST fresh juices - I find myself wanting to drive to Silver Lake just to get their fresh watermelon juice!!
