Near perfect breakfast... – I love this place. Sure there is a bit of a wait on weekends (20-30 minutes), but it's well worth it. The theme changes every month making for a different experience almost every time I go. There is always a great variety of yummy plates that have yet to disappoint. I highly recommend the 5 spot.
I could use some more comfort – I recentally moved to Seattle and when I heard that a comfort food spot was in my hood I was happy. The service was lacking seemed to be fake and after the dish that I ordered already took 45 minutes without aknowledgement our server didn't seem to concerned. As far as the food the pumpkin pasta was great in theory but lacked in execution. I dont want to give up I have a hunch that maybe this is a great breakfast place but hailing from the comfort food capital of the midwest .... I didn't have... read more
A Queen Anne institution with a worldly menu and quick, attentive service. – The Scene Blue- and white-collars rub elbows in this Queen Anne eatery, and unshaven faces are definitely OK. Arrive early for breakfast and take advantage of exceptional people-watching opportunities during the moderate wait for a table. Open spaces and chirpy menu descriptions keep the place casual and relaxed, but servers are speedy and highly competent--mason-jar water glasses won't be empty for a moment. The Food Owners Peter Levy and Jeremy Ha... read more
breakfast spot – I had heard good things, so I went here with my parents last weekend for breakfast. We were very impressed and pleased. My dad ordered a basic breakfast: bacon, and pancakes. They were nothing special. When you go here ask the server for their recommendation or order something a little less ordinary.
Rotating menu at diner-style restaurant – While visiting Seattle, I had dinner at this place with a native, a frequent visitor, and a frequnet traveler who eats out a lot. We all enjoyed the food, drinks, and service. The menu rotates so check the sign out front for the current theme. When I was there, it was Sweet Home Alabama - southern comfort food (or is that an oxymoron?). Even little things like salad dressings match the theme (green goddess!). Our server let us know the special and its price as well as informing us th... read more
The best French toast in the world – This is a cute little coffee shop/diner... went there on a sleepy morning and had the BEST french toast of my life. It's more like a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon roll with some sort of tasty butter to put on top... totally amazing. My friend had a scramble that was also good. But the portions are ginormous so make sure you come hungry and be prepped for leftovers. Service was really helpful and I loved the cute Mason jar glasses. I'll definitely be back, maybe for dinner??
Totally Worth The Wait – Every restaurant will have its off days and I'm sure the 5-Spot is no different but some of the other reviews do not give credit where credit is due. The food is great, especially the fried chicken (but get there early -- it usually sells out every night). The wait can be long during peak brunch or dinner times but you can easily get in quickly during off-peak times. Some of the other reviews complained about 'bland' or 'greasy' food but the 5-Spot delivers anything but. If you want to munch on some ... read more
Not worth it – I have tried many times to like this place, as I live in Queen Anne, but I just can't do it. Every menu item I've tried has been bland, greasy, and ultimately hard to digest. The rotating menu drives me insane; the one entree that I liked, an eggplant dish back in 2004, was gone before I knew it. The bloody marys are tasteless. The only good thing about the 5 Spot is that the service is generally good and everyone there is friendly.
The shoe just doesn't fit ... – The 5 Spot is like a boyfriend you desperately need to dump, but dont because you have this hope that he will turn around someday. The food is consistently bland. Without fail, the french fries from the fish & chips are limp. Hash browns with the breakfast are dry, undercooked, and tasteless. Ranch salad dressing is non-descript. The changing specialty items ALWAYS sound better on the menu than they actually taste. The service is generally poor inattentive, distracted, or seem put-out to be wo... read more
