Stay away from purchasing any form of extended warranty from Zurich. Purchased an 8 year/120,000 mile warranty that Zurich was offering through the ***** dealership I purchased the vehicle from in 2012. My 2009 ***** Accord was purchased in 2012 and only has 109,000 miles on it currently, and this week I attempted to file a claim from Zurich for some minor issues I was having with the vehicle. On February 9th I was rear ended by a careless driver who was insured by Zurich. Initially the claim seemed to be handled well. The claims representative was responsive and seemed to be willing to resolve the claim. However when it was determined my vehicle was totalled they stopped returning calls and emails, it took me stating I would seek legal representation to even get a reply to email or phone calls. This is a copy of my final email to Zurich, after working for almost a year to resolve my claim for gap insurance. First of all, I’ve been working to settle this claim for almost a year now, and I’m sick of being directed in circles to resubmit documents that you already have. Purchased GAP coverage from Zurich in February 2014. Signed contract does not indicate that refinancing original auto loan nulls and voids the GAP coverage. We refinanced the auto loan in September 2016. Truck (collateral on the loan) was totaled in November 2017. After insurance company settlement, loan had a remaining balance of $3674, which Zurich has denied. Zurich could not provide me with a signed contract stating that refinancing voids the contract. We have had three incidents with the Zurich insurance and they were handled efficiently and to our satisfaction.
Zurich is a typical extended warranty company. They hide behind contracts. I purchased a 3 year/36000 mile powertrain warranty with them. I paid $1600 for this warranty. Recently, my cars transmission started slipping and I took it to the local **** Dealership. They discovered that my transmission cooler (not covered) in my radiator ruptured causing "possible damage" to my transmission. I purchased a 2016 ***** 3 iTouring in October 2016 at **** ****** Metro ***** of Milwaukee. The car salesman signed me up for a maintenance package. This doubled my car payment. I was not aware. I was told the car had a warranty through the dealership that entitled us to complimentary repairs and service, not that I would be paying a third party for the service and signing a permanent contract that added thousands of dollars onto the price of my vehicle.
