Bad scheduling/hosting, good bartenders, Luger's-style service and STEAK – This is a small restaurant. They clearly overbook reservations - even for 7pm. Table for 4 last night took 1 hour to be seated - after checking with the overwhelmed hostess multiple times. Great Steak, Great Waiters, poorly run, too noisy – This is where you go if you can't get a reservation or don't want to go to Brooklyn to eat at Peter Luger's. The steak is excellent. The wait staff was good, but we arrived at the Park Ave location on time for a 7:00 reservation for a birthday dinner and were not seated until 7:54 with barely an apology. the place...perfect – One of the best steaks ever, flavorful and sizzing. Great service, great sides...ambiance is casual yet very service oriented. In fact, everything was exceptional... even the company.
Horrid service, useless hostess, and incompetent maitre'd! – 45 minute wait with reservation! I had a 7pm reservation for which I arrived on time with my entire party. The hostess would not check us in on time unless I presented everyone in front of her. Best lunch in midtown – First off, Wolfgang's boasts the City's best business lunch with a pre-fixe menu under $30 that could feed Rosanna Scotto's fat arss. Furthermore, I'm a proud New Yorker and unfortunately, a personal acquanitance of jsmilgin, the author of the previous review. Another Ordinary Steakhouse – Had dinner at Wolfgang's last night (New Year's eve 2006) and am sorry to report that "Wolfy" brought the same brusque service and over-rated meat with him from Peter Lugar's. I have been to Lugar's many times (first time was in 1987) and finally gave up on the "best steak house in the USA" because of the lousy service (which is often rude) and the low quality of their "steak for two".......which is OK on a good evening and almost inedible on a bad one. Don't subject yourself to this misery...This is New York, the options are endless, avoid the poor customer service served up here. – The Hostess was the nastiest person. She appeared bothered that we were there and completely unprofessional. Waste of Time – Fact:s We made a reservation 2 weeks ahead of time for 9 pm (party of 2). The hostess told us to have a drink and that our table would be ready in 15 minutes. We checked in with her at 9:15, 9:30 and 9:45. Each time, our table was to be ready in 15 minutes. We left. Question: What is the point in making a reservation if they do not bother to hold it (anyone else remember that Seinfeld episode?). really good steak, cool interior – I heard that this place was initially a private subway stop for one of the Vanderbilt's and it looks like it. Steak would be a good enough reason to come here, but they have the most food-gasmic thick bacon strips i've ever had.
