Worst service – Vindalho's food is fairly good, but truly overpriced. The service is very rude and the owner is very impersonal and unpleasant. This is the first and last time I would dine there. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Portland that treat you well and appreciate your business.
Watch out Bombay Cricket Club! We have a runner up! – Im vegetarian so I cant speak for the meat dishes, but everything I ordered I loved! I really, really, recomend getting a chutney sampler, the peach chutney knocked our socks off! The place was really relaxing and nice inside, the staff friendly and attentive.
Pacific Northwest ingredients with an Indian influence – This place is relatively new, but is already a favorite. I don't rate restaurants very high (I think people need to fully utilize the scale on this website), so my "Recommend" is a really good score based on my other gradings. The staff was friendly. The restaurant was clean. The food was great and uses PNW ingredients with an Indian influence. We have been twice and one of us had the special of the day each time, and menu items for the others. The selections on both t... read more
Nouveau Indian – Why oh why can't they figure out that Indian food is all about sauces, spices, dips and hot rice. I really liked the papadam but not necessarily with sweet chutney. It was hard for the waiter to figure out why I was asking for green chutney with my naan, before the appetizers, because I was starving. It took a long time to get our food. It was delicious but not "Indian" enoguh for me. Living in New York City for 20 years got me spoiled to some of the real Indian soul food that has made it to the U.S. So I wa... read more
Great ambiance... food so/so – I've been to Vindalho twice now and both times I left not completely satisfied. My first issue is that they talk up using organic meats and such, but you don't seem to get the best part of those meats. Our chicken curry was made up of random meat parts. Unidentifiable really. I guess if I'm going to pay $14 for a curry, I'd prefer white meat. The curry also lacked flavor. I think the restaurant itself is beautiful but the food didn't leave me wanting to return.
Delicious food in a great location! – A friend of mine and I stopped in for a quick bite and just sat at the bar and split several appetizer/small dishes and a couple of drinks. That was enough for me to know that I will definitely be heading back. The entree prices do seem a little steep from looking at the menu but if the small dishes are any indicator of the entrees, they are well worth the price!
A great trip for the tastebuds – My husband and I took ourselves out for a Christmas treat. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but we both love Indian food so we thought we'd give it a try. We were greeted warmly and seated right away, though it may be because we arrived directly when they opened. Our server, Susan, was fantastic - around enough that we never felt ignored, but not so ever present that we wanted to shoo her away. We started with the Sweet Potato samosas, which were a great way to start the meal. My husband... read more
wasn't looking for "authentic" indian cusine, found a jewel – really didn't know what to expect given the other reviews i've read. what we found was very enjoyable with excellent food. i don't know if i will ever get used to the modern architecture that seems to let sound bounce off all the walls but the place really is pretty attractive but loud. the service was very prompt, we arrived a little early and had to wait a couple of minutes but once we were seated the server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the food and t... read more
A Little Good with Too Much Bad! – The thought of a great Indian Restaurant had me overjoyed. That might have been the problem... The food was good (Pork Vindalho, Vegetable curry, Naan & Rita(?) w/ Samosas). But never in my life have I ever been to an Indian restaurant that charged so much for the Condiments! Samosas should come with the fixings. It's like ordering the Pork Vidalho dry and paying extra for the Curry and Rice. If you pay $14.25 per plate on Average (YES, that is the Average price per plate. I did the math) y... read more
