Nouveau Indian – Why oh why can't they figure out that Indian food is all about sauces, spices, dips and hot rice. I really liked the papadam but not necessarily with sweet chutney. It was hard for the waiter to figure out why I was asking for green chutney with my naan, before the appetizers, because I was starving. It took a long time to get our food. It was delicious but not "Indian" enoguh for me. Living in New York City for 20 years got me spoiled to some of the real Indian soul food that has made it to the U.S. So I wa... read more

Great ambiance... food so/so – I've been to Vindalho twice now and both times I left not completely satisfied. My first issue is that they talk up using organic meats and such, but you don't seem to get the best part of those meats. Our chicken curry was made up of random meat parts. Unidentifiable really. I guess if I'm going to pay $14 for a curry, I'd prefer white meat. The curry also lacked flavor. I think the restaurant itself is beautiful but the food didn't leave me wanting to return.

Delicious food in a great location! – A friend of mine and I stopped in for a quick bite and just sat at the bar and split several appetizer/small dishes and a couple of drinks. That was enough for me to know that I will definitely be heading back. The entree prices do seem a little steep from looking at the menu but if the small dishes are any indicator of the entrees, they are well worth the price!

A great trip for the tastebuds – My husband and I took ourselves out for a Christmas treat. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but we both love Indian food so we thought we'd give it a try. We were greeted warmly and seated right away, though it may be because we arrived directly when they opened. Our server, Susan, was fantastic - around enough that we never felt ignored, but not so ever present that we wanted to shoo her away. We started with the Sweet Potato samosas, which were a great way to start the meal. My husband... read more

wasn't looking for "authentic" indian cusine, found a jewel – really didn't know what to expect given the other reviews i've read. what we found was very enjoyable with excellent food. i don't know if i will ever get used to the modern architecture that seems to let sound bounce off all the walls but the place really is pretty attractive but loud. the service was very prompt, we arrived a little early and had to wait a couple of minutes but once we were seated the server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the food and t... read more

A Little Good with Too Much Bad! – The thought of a great Indian Restaurant had me overjoyed. That might have been the problem... The food was good (Pork Vindalho, Vegetable curry, Naan & Rita(?) w/ Samosas). But never in my life have I ever been to an Indian restaurant that charged so much for the Condiments! Samosas should come with the fixings. It's like ordering the Pork Vidalho dry and paying extra for the Curry and Rice. If you pay $14.25 per plate on Average (YES, that is the Average price per plate. I did the math) y... read more

Great food – I love the food here! The wait staff is very pleasant and polite. I only wish it were open on sundays & they had more wine by the glass.

Delicious, fresh, imaginative fare – Alas, Portland's restaurant scene is on par with other great N. American cities in nearly every category absent one of my favorites- Indian food. Vindahlo is a bold place- marvelous architecture, including great water garden and disconnected downspouts off roof; serene back patio; imaginative appetizers; hearty, delicious main courses topped with fresh coconut shavings; stellar chutneys; and unbelievably good deserts. Not normally a big desert freak, I was deeply impressed recently by wha... read more

Modern Interpretation of Classic Indian Cuisine – Haha, people can be so snobby... this place is great! Yes, the Tandoori Chicken is not like traditional Tandoori Chicken. Yes, the Naan is not like traditional Naan. Yes, the waitstaff and the cooks are not Indian... but who cares?! I guess that's why they advertise as serving a modern interpretation of classic Indian cuisine... and not traditional. The food presentation and restaurant atmosphere were both clean and flavorful. The entrees that we ordered were served with one ... read more
