She did my double mastectomy 10 years ago and completely missed the signs of post-mastectomy pain syndrome. I complained of persistent pain but she said it was my body getting used to the expanders. By the time I finally got to a plastic surgeon (the third) who recognized it, the syndrome had gone on for so long it was not treatable and I am left with pain 24/7. I had to have my reconstruction reversed and can't wear breast forms because of the pain. I would never recommend Dr. VanFossen.
I either felt patronized. It seemed as though Dr. Van Fossen wanted to lead me along and do as she recommended without question. When I expressed my opinion, against her advise it was as though she was finished and suggested I find a support group! When I asked what my next step should be she turned her back, said, "Don't have an additional mammogram," and walked out the door. Letter arrived - ",,,the responsibility of your declining medical care for this condition is yours only."
I could not ask for a more compassionate and caring doctor. She is very knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend her
Dr. VanFossen was my surgeon for a preventative nipple sparing mastectomy. She was so kind and caring. Surgery day she came and spoke with me. She was very reassuring and understanding of my obvious anxiety. Surgery went well. She came to my room and checked on me a few times during my 24 hour hospital stay. Knowing i had traveled a ways she really wanted to make sure i was comfortable going home after just one night. I truly appreciated her concern thoughtfulness. Would recommend her to anyone
