Tower Bar

About this business

The Tower Bar, located in the historic, art deco Sunset Tower Hotel, is reminiscent of 1930s Hollywood glamor. A roaring fire, piano service, walnut-paneled walls, and intimate back lit corner booths create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether here for business or pleasure, enjoy the spectacular views of Los Angeles—the city of angels. The kitchen serves Californian fare, focusing on freshness and quality. The beef tartare, marinated in olive oil overnight, is succulent and tender. Other main courses include Grilled... read more

RIP OFF ALERT! – We ate at the Tower Bar on Saturday (3/8/08) and were extremely disappointed. It had been a year or two since we last went there, after service was terrible on two different occasions. We'd hoped things had changed, but alas no. Despite being told it was a special occasion during the reservation process, we ended up at an "added" table that was clearly not part of the floor plan. Had anyone in our party been the slightest bit overweight, we wouldn't have even fit into the cramped (and weird) space. Things go... read more

what a mess – What a disorganized place. The host called me a few hours before the reservation telling me he cannot accommodate of party of eight at our reservation time. We made a reservation three weeks in advance and already got a confirmation call from the restaurant. After going back and forth he agreed to seat us at our schedule time. But when we got there we had to wait over an hour and he (Dementri) made no apologizes or accommodation like good services or comps, Not much of a birthday celebration.

Great spot for business cocktails and dinner – I had a social busineess cocktails meeting and Tower Bar was a great choice. The bartender was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. After glasses of wine we were ready for light bite to eat. The butter lettuce salad isn't anything special but the pizza appitizer was so delicious and light. The room is cozy and kept quite dark. I would definately go back.

Wonderful Sunday Brunch – This was my first time to The Terrace. The last time I visited the Sunset Tower hotel, we ate in the Tower Bar, and the Terrace was still under construction. I found my party after wandering about and was delighted to find the Terrace to be so open and calming compared to the closed-off space of the Tower Bar. Thankfully, the weather was pleasant and our views were lovely for a Sunday Brunch. The slatted tables were a bit awkward for the flatware, but we quickly put our forks to use after ordering o... read more

Stylish, Chic, Amazing menu (and try their signature Martini) – My friends and I found Tower Bar stylish, hip and sophisticated but certainly not Hollywood stuffy. Upon walking into the Sunset Tower Hotel, it was apparent the former art deco decor is all but a mere faded memory. The Golden era of 1920's Hollywood with a modern twist is a welcomed addition along famed Sunset strip. The rich walnut paneled walls, soft beige tiles along with the buzz of piano Jazz assured us we were in for a fun evening. Tower Bar maitre d' Dim... read more

We left after a 2-hour wait for our reserved table! – After hearing much hullabaloo about the Tower Bar we decided to try it ourselves. We made a reservation for an 8pm dinner, and got there right before 8. Then we waited at the bar for over 2 hours and finally gave up and went somewhere else. This has only happened to us once before, at Mr. Chow, but we actually were forced to stay and eat at Mr. Chow (something we will never do again) due to family. I can't comment on the food, since we laft after waiting for 2 hours, but ... read more

our anniversary dinner – my husband and I just celebrated our anniversary at the tower bar. The ambience, the music duo, the staff and the food were all superb. we shared an order of ahi tuna tartar for appetizer which was just fabulous. For my entree I ordered the chicken paillard and my husband had the filet stuffed with light gorgonzola. we both tried each other'sentree. Both entrees were more than a delight. we asked the waiter if he could serve us the desserts by the poolside which he gladly did. This was not our first ... read more

I'm always willing to cut a restaurant slack when one or two things are wrong -- nobody's perfect. But when there's SO much more wrong than right, I draw the line. From the confusing entry (is there even a hostess??) to truly laughably bad service (and I mean that literally, it was so bad we thought we were on Candid Camera), to a 3 1/2-hour meal length (and it wasn't a tasting menu either), this was a mess. And to cap it off with food that ranged from a high point of "it's fine" to "I can't eat this", when the check (appeti... read more

Memorable Dinner – The meal one enjoys with friends or family are mental pictures that one can revisit often. The aroma of a freshly baked cookie can transport you back to the time and place you had that cookie. This was the case with the meal I enjoyed with gusto at the Tower Bar. The amuse bouche sent to our table teased our taste buds & heighten our expectations. My salad with ruby red grapefruit and avocado was light and refreshing , I would never think that avocado and grapefruit would pair well."the I'm a believer .." ... read more
