The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

Totally over rated. Food was either too salty or lacking flavor. Pulled pork was dry and bland. Ribs had a good smoky flavor but became salty as we ate on. Fried green tomatoes had absolutely no flavor Just batter and plain tomatoes and the potatoe salad came right out to the container. To be fair the wings and deviled eggs had flavor and tasty. I'm very sorry but I don't think that this is bbq. It's bad. We had bbq at Ronnie's bbq in Richmond VA and it's so much better. I guess they have all these beers to cloud your taste ... read more

The food was great. We had 2 servers both were knowledgeable about their food and we're more than happy to keep my drink (lemonade) full.
Went to the pit today and it was very disappointing. The food was cold and the service was terrible. Used to be much better than that!

I have eaten here many times before and the food was great but today everything tasted like it had been cooked yesterday and heated in the microwave! They use a "team" approach to waiting tables which makes service slooooow and half-assed. The prices are too high for this type of service.

I ate there today with my family and was pleasantly surprised. I had last eaten there back when they had first opened (Ed Mitchell was still involved ) and was not at all impressed. Today the food was great and service was good as well. We will be back! (Sorry, I had originally posted this on for their Durham location when we had eaten at their Raleigh location )

The food quality was beneath my standard, wasn't impressed with the Service, and The Sanitation Grade was Low, that made me uncomfortable!! The Management Team didn't even Care that a Client/Customer wasn't satisfied!! Sad...
Bad service and food experience. I enjoyed the liver, but my ribs and chicken.... thumbs down!!
