Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

I had reservations for lunch today at 11:30am for Valentine's Day with my parents. Thank you Pit for making it memorable for my family. The food was spot-on and the staff was so personable and friendly. I forgot our servers names but the fact that they were friendly, attentive, and personable lived into your title of being authentic. The food was authentic and so was the staff, even while it got super busy & packed fast. Keep up the great work!

We go a few time a year now but when it was under original ownership with Ed Mitchell as pit master we went once a month simply because it was like a small step back in time to when my grand parents would cook. Don’t get me wrong the pit is still an awesome place to eat it’s just not the same as when it first opened with Ed cooking. Not downing them just saying it was better before.
Food was delicious and portions are plentiful. Quick and friendly service. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely go back.

Chicken wings, Ribs and Skillet Cornbread were amazing!!! Super recommended. Our server was top notch too!!!
