The flagship location of The Matador in Seattle is extremely popular with locals. The unique ambiance, with skillfully-designed tables, antique lights, fireplace and plasma screen televisions is a blend of conventional and modern sensibilities. There is decent choice of Tex-Mex cuisine available too, with options like charbroiled rib-eye, beef tenderloin medallions and skillet seared fajitas. The sandwiches and starter plates are also something to try out here. Check website for more information.

Whats your sign babe? Taurus. – I really thought this place was cool. The bartender, Mike, was efficient and good looking, although not overly warm (he didn't have the time, the place was swarming). The beer was served in frozen, thick wall mugs that really helped retain the chill. I loved the decor, with its bull motif. The only problem is that it does have that meat market thing going on (just like Pesos), but that would probably be because there is so much nice meat walking around there (male and female). One other issue:... read more
Disappointed Promises – Was expecting a LOT more of this little-brother to Queen Anne's Pesos, but, as the big brother has drifted into mediocrity, the little brother follows along. The formerly delicious hand-squeezed Margarita mix is tasteless sugarwater with overpowering Tequilla. Food bland, uninspired and all the interesting, unique dishes of 2 years ago, long gone from the now-standardized, Americanized menu. Meat market ambience, lousy service.
The Best Happy Hour! – They have the best happy hour in town, almost half of their regular menu is available and the portions are as if you ordered off the menu.
I love Happy Hour! – Happy Hour is great at the Matador. I've been there twice (once for Valentine's Day, and once for my Birthday), and both times I had an awesome time. We went during happy hour both times, and just shared appetizers and had drinks. For $3 an appetizer it's a great value, and if you like a little heat you should love the food. Between the goat cheese stuffed jalepenos and the chipotle chicken wings my lips were burning, but everything was so good! Plus it's a lot of fun to order 4-5 different appetizers to... read more
Pretty Average – I have been here a few times, not a bad place but nothing to brag about either. Some of my friends have had bad service here, though to be honest most of the people in the place aren't from Ballard at all, so are used to that level of service. Many better spots to drink right down the street. Good happy hour menu though.
Fun & Different! – This place is great and different from most places in Seattle. The food is yummy, the atmosphere is fun and lively, and the drinks are GOOD!! If you want to try something different you should try The Matador. Oh yeah and the happy hour menu is to die for!!! We had a great time!
WELCOME TO BALLARD!!!! – I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE REVIEW I JUST READ.........I BELIEVE THIS WOMAN WAS AT A WHOLE DIFFERENT RESTAURANT- I HAVE BEEN TO MATADOR NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT GREAT EXPERIENCES. ALTHOUGH "NEW", THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN LAMENT ABOUT IS HOW POPULAR IT HAS BECOME. I HAVE WAITED PATIENTLY**!!@(() FOR A TABLE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN DISSAPOINTED FOR THE WAIT. IT IS CONSENSUS FROM MY BALLARD NEIGHBORS THAT THIS PLACE ROCKS! I HAVE ALSO SEEN BOTH OWNERS BUSSING THEIR BUTTS OFF, AS WELL AS DOING TH... read more
Great find! – Finally a southwestern place in Seattle that isn't "Baja!" Hands down my new favorite place for fajitas and enchilidas -- the best I've had since moving away from Texas, y'all.
Hip in Ballard – True they only opened a month ago but I was surprised by how packed it was. Warm atmosphere and cool interiors. The food was wonderful! It was a bit loud and our group had to yell to hear each other. Overall a great new spot with lots of promise. I'll go back.
