The flagship location of The Matador in Seattle is extremely popular with locals. The unique ambiance, with skillfully-designed tables, antique lights, fireplace and plasma screen televisions is a blend of conventional and modern sensibilities. There is decent choice of Tex-Mex cuisine available too, with options like charbroiled rib-eye, beef tenderloin medallions and skillet seared fajitas. The sandwiches and starter plates are also something to try out here. Check website for more information.

Great Restaurant – I have been to The Matador a few times now and have always enjoyed it. I love the shrimp quesadilla's, and the nacho's. Happy hour is excellent. Great prices. Good service.
Worst paella ever (and shoddy customer service) – Two of us ordered the paella for dinner. It was the worst paella that both of us had eaten in our lives. It was burnt so that there was a thick crust of hard rice, stuck to the bottom. The rice on top was extremely dry and hard, to the point where it was actually unchewable. Between the rice stuck to the bottom and inedible rice on top, there wasn't much left to eat. It was served in a heavy skillet, presumably what they cooked it in. It seems to me that they stuck it in the ... read more
Great Food! – I came here with a group of friends and we loved it. The food was excellent, the service was great and the ambiance was pleasant.
Can I give less than 1 star? – I'd walk a mile to avoid this place. I went there with 5 friends after seeing a movie on Sunday afternoon at the Majestic Bay. We ended up at the Matador because it was within walking distance, in the future I'd keep walking. The service was slow and inconsistent, the waitress couldn't manage to keep the ice teas full and pretty much just ignored our table for large amounts of time. The food is mundane and sub-par. The salsa was so spicy that most of us were unable to eat it. I ordered the Carn... read more
Good Happy Hour – Matador is the neighborhood singles spot. For dining, i would go other places but for a margarita and happy hour spot it's a good place for bar food. The spring rolls and nachos are pretty tasty and the prices are very reasonable. The bartenders are friendly too and the patio is fairly large.
AWFUL service, mediocre food – The only good thing about the restaurant was the ambiance. The bartender made our drinks wrong (added vodka when there is no vodka in the drink), then would not even give us a discount on them. He told us to drink them as they were and walked away (to watch football). I complained to the manager, he told me that he didn't see what happened and so couldn't give me a refund. The food was just blah, the server was also blah. I won't be going back.
Great happy hour and pefectly prepared Mahi Mahi – Looking for a great neighborhood place to hang out and have some kicked up gourmet Tex-Mex cuisine? You've found it. The firepit and interesting iron artwork lend to the cozy, hip environment. The food is consistently good (I've been here at least 10 times and not been disappointed). The habanero prawns are a favorite for those who love heat in a perfectly balanced creamy sauce. My new favorite dish is the Mahi Mahi. It is what you always hope for when you order fish - flaky... read more
Yuppy meet-market – We are huge fans of the Ballard neighborhood, and we heard that happy hour here was worth checking out, so we gave it a try. Huge disappointment!! All of our drinks were severely watered down. The nachos were huge, soggy and greasy, and the tacos were more salsa than meat. The waitstaff was so rude, and appeared to be more interested in the younger, trendier looking patrons. When we finished our food, our table was hurried-ly cleared and our check quickly delivered presumably to move us along. The atmosph... read more
West Seattle location has issues – I've been a fan of the ballard location for a while now. Consistantly decent food and an attractive friendly staff that made us feel welcome. I live in West Seattle so when they came to my area, I was thrilled. I've now had bad experiences there 2 times out of 3. One was so bad, it inspired me to write a review. Specifically, the food wasn't as good as in Ballard and the rude staff made no attempt to make it right. The food between the two locations is similar but at the W seattle ones, the... read more
