The Matador

4.4

About this business

The flagship location of The Matador in Seattle is extremely popular with locals. The unique ambiance, with skillfully-designed tables, antique lights, fireplace and plasma screen televisions is a blend of conventional and modern sensibilities. There is decent choice of Tex-Mex cuisine available too, with options like charbroiled rib-eye, beef tenderloin medallions and skillet seared fajitas. The sandwiches and starter plates are also something to try out here. Check website for more information.

West Seattle Matador – I've been to the Ballard location and loved it so we were excited when the Matador opened in West Seattle. I've been to the restaurant twice with my husband. Both times we were very disappointed with our food. The service left something to be desired as well. The waitress took forever and was fairly rude. I do not recommend the West Seattle location but still love Ballard.

Gourmet Tex-Mex, Great Atmosphere – This is THE best place to stop by for Happy Hour after work. The $4 happy hour menu is long and everything on it sounds good. The nachos are amazing and huge!

McMatador – Now that Matador is expanding as fast as they can (one new restaurant a year), you can tell. We all headed over to the Matador in West Seattle. It was on a weekend night fairly early (7ish). The place is pretty cool. The decor is tex-mex and dark. Lots of candles and nice tables. We ordered apps, margaritas, and dinner. The drinks were fair. The pork tacos were good except for the flavorless and runny beans and rice. The calamari were right out of a frozen bag with no flavor and tasted "fast-foody". They might as... read more

Great place – We really enjoyed it here. In the summer they open up a giant wall of windows so you can sit outside in the sunshine or inside in the cool breeze. In the center is a giant fire pit which is super cozy at night. The drinks are h it or miss. While their margaritas - which they claim to be their specialty - tasted salty and almost bland to me, the sangria is outstanding and the mojitos are even better! The mojitos are made with lots of fresh mint that is refreshing and just perfect on a hot day. The service is att... read more

time for mojitos! – i love mojitos.. matador makes the best ones! it's a default place to go to. it's not so much that their food is good, but it's a nice place to hang out and have a couple drinks at. seating can be a nightmare on friday and saturday nights and sometimes there are overly obnoxious, screaming customers, but the service is really good, very friendly in a mellow, casual sort of way.

Bad Drinks in Ballard – I liked the atmosphere and the appetizers were average. BUT, the drinks were terrible and we tried 5 different drinks: The Topshelf Margarita was the worst, should have ordered a regular one. The Cosmo was not made with Cranberry juice but tasted like pink lemonade. The Purple Nehi was a disaster. The Kamakazi tasted like it was the last of whatever they had. 5. How can you screw up a "Screwdriver" We finally just had "Patron" on the rocks and still had to ask for a lime. Was it because it was a Sunda... read more

User review by jigoldman – For the West Seattle location I would have to say service is something to be desired. As for the food unexciting and mediocre at best. I could say the only thing it has going for it are strong cheap happy hour drinks and a meat market scene.

The Lone Star state meets Ballard at this trendy Tex-Mex bar and grill. – The Scene A longhorn skull above the main bar, lavish metal artifacts on the walls and antique light fixtures hanging from the ceiling give this small triangular room a big dose of character. But it's the centerpiece--a semicircular bar surrounding a massive flume-covered fire pit--that attracts the most attention. The atmosphere feels just right for clientele that is well-dressed and includes employees from other area establishments. The Draw Wine and... read more

Matador West Seattle has arrived – The best Happy Hour value you're going to get for a rich food place. The nachos were the best prepared and best tasting I've had. No ton of dry chips left over, either. The Happy Hour has many cheap appetizer items to wash down with great margaritas. Since the West Seattle branch is new, they get very crowded in the evenings; check it out before the 9-5ers come in.
