Pretentious and definite pass up – I went to this bar with a group of six people who often frequent local bars with me, and we have never been so disappointed and put off by a place like we were in the Matador. The waitresses were SO miserable, and could not bring themselves to even force a half grin when faced with KINDNESS. We waited patiently for a table in a small, cramped corner, and every waitress who walked by would rudely yell at my friends, such as "Get the hell out of our way!" Literally. Great business, guys! Everything's fine but the food. – Ambience and service seems aptly described by the other reviews. More upscale/stylish than your typical mexican & tex-mex fare. Good service. But after trying 4 dishes on two different occasions we must say: the margaritas are average, the food bland, and the salsa served with the chips tastes like chilled marinara from the jar. ungh. Forget "not spicy," I almost added salt to my rice and beans (and I salt nothing). Got the most flavor from the bill... Bitter, as I just paid 1.5x typical mex... read more
Shrimp Tacos!!! – I haven't been recently, but it sounds like the service has gone downhill. It wasn't really that great when I'd been before but I have to say that their happy hour menu was really, really, really good! And cheap! My favorite were the shrimp tacos, they are so good!
Average – When I went (a Sunday night) the service was ok. I had no complaints. Some of the food was excellent, some of it was average. I like the atmosphere, but it's a small place. And it's also quite open and I'm sure it's very loud on a busy night. The wooden seats could use a cushion. I would go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
Don't expect much... – Forget getting anything, service, help from others, food...you name it don't count on it! A group of three went down on a not so busy Sat night, expecting more people to join us. While waiting for a table we ordered drinks at the bar. We moved to the table, and with 5 menus (no food), and half full drinks our idiot of a waitress asked if we wanted more drinks...no mention of food. And don't count on anyone else helping you, you must order from your waitress. Little did we know she would stop by no more... read more
Tequila lovers rejoice – Great atmosphere, decent food ( I only went for lunch) and plenty of Tequila. If I was Tequila drinker I would be back next Friday belly up to the bar trying all that they had, which was a lot. This place could be a great place to hang out on a Friday after work, it you like Tequila. Service was a little slow and unattentive but not horrible. It wasworth trying once.
worst service ever – NEVER GO HERE!!! WORST SERVICE EVER!!! so we went with a large group of friends (10) to celebrate a birthday. First of all they dont split checks...so be prepared to do math (as in add your meal, drinks, tax and tip)... they add the gratuity which as a server i understand for a large group and I never tip badly and she flat out didn't deserve anything!! tips should reflect your service and when you get bad service and by bad i mean worst i have ever gotten in my life... their should have been no tip. Favorite West Seattle Bar – I have been meaning to write a review of my favorite West Seattle spot for some time, and I finally am doing it. I frequent the Matador almost every week, and I always have an amazing time. Highlights include the great Happy Hour food, awesome bartenders, and the most adorable and charismatic servers. One in particular, Austin, makes every experience enjoyable. Thank you Matador staff for creating such a great place to stop by after work or on the weekends.
Terrible Service – So I had heard all these wonderful things about the food at The Matador and decided to go there for dinner last week. All the things I heard about the food were right, one word...YUM. I have to say though THE SERVICE COMPLETELY STINKS!!! It took 20 min for chips and water to show up. If the waitress cracked a smile it may have hurt her. My water was never refilled. The kicker was that my partner had to approach a group of employees gossiping in the corner for us to get the check so we could leave. The ONLY... read more
