The flagship location of The Matador in Seattle is extremely popular with locals. The unique ambiance, with skillfully-designed tables, antique lights, fireplace and plasma screen televisions is a blend of conventional and modern sensibilities. There is decent choice of Tex-Mex cuisine available too, with options like charbroiled rib-eye, beef tenderloin medallions and skillet seared fajitas. The sandwiches and starter plates are also something to try out here. Check website for more information.

Happy Hour + Fish Tacos + Margaritas = Awsome! – The margaritas are great (at a not so great price) and the fish tacos are also great (at an OK price). The drinks are not cheap, but the bartending skill makes the margaritas a definite winner. Cadillac margaritas are awsome! The only time I eat here is during happy hour, because the menu has selections at $4 each. Unfortunetly the happy hour menu has several losers. The calamari were in small bits, the buffallo wings were average, and the fire prawns were extremely small. But... read more
best nachos ever! – We stopped in for a quick snack of nachos and beer and weren't disappointed! The nachos are huge and are layered with cheese and other yummy ingredients! Very very tasty. I can't wait to go back to try their dinner menu.
Fiery Hot – Nice Atmosphere and decor. The food was good but warning to the faint of heart.. every item says fiery, hot and habanaro for a reason. The green chile enchilada seemed like a safe bet but I my mouth was still on fire.. but so much I quit eating the dish!. Servers should warn you though when they serve you iced tea with flavorings like tropical though as not everyone is a fan.
2docsout4food – I first stopped by before a concert at the Tractor Tavern - and had a great experience at the bar - interacted with the owner/bartender, who was great. I returned several weeks later for a sit down dinner and found the service not nearly as good. Table turnover was extremely slow. I watched as people waited for 20 minutes for their checks as I was waiting for a table. At both visits there appeared to be difficulty with the music system - which was loud to the point of being unable to cary on a conversation. A... read more
Whats your sign babe? Taurus. – I really thought this place was cool. The bartender, Mike, was efficient and good looking, although not overly warm (he didn't have the time, the place was swarming). The beer was served in frozen, thick wall mugs that really helped retain the chill. I loved the decor, with its bull motif. The only problem is that it does have that meat market thing going on (just like Pesos), but that would probably be because there is so much nice meat walking around there (male and female). One other issue:... read more
Disappointed Promises – Was expecting a LOT more of this little-brother to Queen Anne's Pesos, but, as the big brother has drifted into mediocrity, the little brother follows along. The formerly delicious hand-squeezed Margarita mix is tasteless sugarwater with overpowering Tequilla. Food bland, uninspired and all the interesting, unique dishes of 2 years ago, long gone from the now-standardized, Americanized menu. Meat market ambience, lousy service.
The Best Happy Hour! – They have the best happy hour in town, almost half of their regular menu is available and the portions are as if you ordered off the menu.
I love Happy Hour! – Happy Hour is great at the Matador. I've been there twice (once for Valentine's Day, and once for my Birthday), and both times I had an awesome time. We went during happy hour both times, and just shared appetizers and had drinks. For $3 an appetizer it's a great value, and if you like a little heat you should love the food. Between the goat cheese stuffed jalepenos and the chipotle chicken wings my lips were burning, but everything was so good! Plus it's a lot of fun to order 4-5 different appetizers to... read more
Pretty Average – I have been here a few times, not a bad place but nothing to brag about either. Some of my friends have had bad service here, though to be honest most of the people in the place aren't from Ballard at all, so are used to that level of service. Many better spots to drink right down the street. Good happy hour menu though.
