The Kings Contrivance Restaurant is located on what was a 370-acre farm granted in 1730 by The Lord Baltimore to The Reverend James Macgill. A stately Federal Period mansion was built on the present site. It burned to the ground and was rebuilt in the late 1890's. The residence remained in the Macgill family until the 1960's, when it was converted into its present form as a fine dining restaurant. I have more than 40 years of experience with this restaurant. My rating is correct for my usual experience. However, last night (11/11/15) , my wife and daughter and I had dinner and the food was atrocious. The restaurant was busy and the service was prompt. The crab soup was over-spiced to the point of being painful. Th crab cake was slime on a plate. The Veal Picatta was burned in two tries. The deserts were less than ordinary. I was greatly disappointed and am now wary about taking guests to the restaurant until I can reg... read more

Great atmosphere wonderful food selection and great tasting food. The wine list is very nice.
