The Carolina Inn has made a very disappointing decision. As cities around the country and the world grapple with the cruelty of horse drawn carriage rides, The Carolina Inn has decided to offer them. The Carolina Inn is part of a progressive town. The use of carriage horses has been widely condemned all over the world as exploitative and distasteful -- why on earth would this activity be on the holiday agenda? The Carolina Inn would do well to adjust to the times and abolish an outdated practice that will be offensive to many patrons.

I used to think this was a beautiful place, until I found out that they are using enslaved horses to pull around up to eight people. What a shame that a historic Inn in a progressive community has to stoop to animal abuse to generate business. I won't be going there again.

The Carolina Inn's decision to sponsor horse-drawn carriage rides shows a lack of compassion for horses in favor of promoting animal slavery for profit. I hope the management will ditch the notion of trying to create false nostalgia for days gone by to increase their profits in favor of showing true leadership with a more forward thinking, cruelty free business model that's aligned with more progressive values we desperately need in these current times.

The Inn is a lovely property with a very elegant colonial atmosohere. It was beautifully decorated for the season, and the staff was courteous and friendly. The evening turn down service was a nice surprise.
