Value? – The restaurant has always appealed to me with its garlic noodles. However, the noodles alone do not justify the cost. The prices for this place have steadily risen over the years, and the crab, still good, is way up there! I still recommend this place to people, though they need to be prepared for the costs. For a restaurant that started out as a neighborhood affair, it has gotten too fancy.
Too much butter! – Unless you like your crab to be swimming in butter, I would not recommend this place. I prefer to taste the freshness of the crab and to be able to control the amount of butter I use, if at all - lemon is my preference, in fact. Perhaps the overuse of butter is to hide the lack of freshness? On the positive side - the wait staff works hard and is friendly.
Delicious, messy and pricey – The crab is exquisite, albeit a bit pricey. Be prepared to get down and dirty. I've tried many different crab preparations and this is by far the best. Of course, you can't pass up the garlic noodles. Go spend some money. You won't be dissapointed.
Yummy Noodles! – The prices are a bit high but, the garlic noodles with the butterfly prawns are so good! It's worth going to.
one of the worst experiences ever – I took my parents who were in from out of town to t.l. The service was probably the worst service I've ever experienced. The server was incredibly rude and constantly hurried us. The crab was good, but not good enough to make up for the service or the price. A very very bad experience.
Awesome crabs! – You must try their crabs & garlic noodles. I love their appetizers too.
Great crab, high prices! – A few notes about TL... - The "Roasted Crab" is excellent - Other crab entrees are mediocre (ie. the drunken crab) - Other entrees are mediocre, if you don't want to eat crab you shouldn't be at this restaurant. - The garlic noodles are good, but a little will go a long way... you can easily share 1 order between 2-3 people. - The prices are too high. With no wine, dinner for two cost me over $120 last weekend. If I had it to do over again, I would have skipped items like the grilled calamari (lite... read more
Prices might leave you a little crabby.. – Dined at Thanh Long last night and had the signature Roasted/Drunken crab and Garlic noodles which were very tasty. Dungeness crabs were about a 12" wide and served on a platter with the leg sections cut apart. A heaping platter of thick asian noodles doused with butter and garlic were the perfect side-dish. Everything was delicious, wine list was decent and the decor is above average, hidden behind a plain storefront. We spend about $45/person with one appetizer, 5 crabs and one dr... read more
Crab, crab and more crab – Finally, after years of hearing about "crab the size of texas", I rolled up my sleeves, removed my watch and enjoyed the best crab in San Francisco. The roast crab is beyond compare but be sure to check out the Drunken Crab too.
