not very good – small crabs, too much msg in the garlic noodles and overpriced for the ambience and type of restaurant it is
Expensive but GOOD!!! – My girlfriend and I recently had dinner here. The service was fantastic. For appetizers we had The salmon carparcio (sp), which was great, and salt and pepper calamari which was ok. As for the crab I would recommend the drunken crab over the pepper crab. The pepper crab has lots of butter and if you dont eat fast enough, the butter gets cold and starts to harden. Their infused vodka's are very good (Pineapple ginger is my favorite). The food is expensive ($33 for the crab and $9 for the garlic noodles... read more
One of my favorite places in the city – The crab and the garlic noodles are outstanding, and the appetizers I've tried there have been very good, too. Of course, you had better like garlic... Also, you should definitely make a reservation and be prepared to spend in the neighborhood of $60 per person.
This Vietnamese crab house is a change of pace from the Fisherman's Wharf seafood circuit. – In Short This eatery attracts a surprisingly diverse clentele--families out for a celebration squeeze in next to surfers, grandmothers and hipsters. Foodwise, Thanh Long treads a path between French, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines--entrees include tiger prawns with garlic noodles, Saigon beef and roasted Dungeness crab. For dessert, there is a creme caramel cake.
Not Recommended – The restuarant's decor is nice but the food is not worth it. We ordered the roasted crab, garlic noodles, and a calamari dish. Surprisingly, our food came out after just 3-5 minutes, which should have been a sign. The crab was puny, drenched in butter, and not hot at all. The garlic noodles were similarly lukewarm. The calamari was floating in a bed of sweet and sour sauce. The food seemed like it was prepared a couple hours ago and microwaved for 30 seconds. We attempted to save the dinner with a molten ch... read more
Wonderful! – Grab your bib and go to town on Thanh Long's awesome crab. I love this place. the service has always been hospitable, the food consistently good -the garlic noodles are amazing - and let's face it, there is nothing more satisfying than getting down and dirty with a succulent Dungeness crab! MMM! Yeah, okay, it is a tad pricey, but once in a while you just gotta splurge, right? Considering the countless places I have "splurged" in the city, this is truly worth it's weight! Recommend : Roast Crab, Crab puffs, Garl... read more
what the heck... – After reading about Thanh Long, I must say that we were extremely disappointed with the meal that we had there. The decor at the bar was nice and the hostess was pleasant. Unfortunately, it was like dealing with a used car salesperson when the waitress arrived. She kept pushing us to order more crab and additional entrees, but when asked to tell us about her personal favorites, she basically gave a textbook recitation. The garlic crab was good, but the garlic noodles were NOT to die for as she had proclaim... read more
not worth it – The service was great, drinks good, and we were promptly seated. Those are the only good points. The salmon carpaccio was fishy tasting and the rice vinegar marinade too sweet. Salad was okay. Ordered the garlic noodles with prawns for $29!!!! $29 for 4 dried up large shrimp and noodles?!? Also ordered the chilean seabass (tiny 2 1/2" x 5" piece) for $22!!! was overcooked and accompanying sauce too sweet. For that price, you would have expected it to come with some sides! Overall, not worth the money. I left w... read more
Frozen Crab -- a total ripoff – The crab is FROZEN! Crab meat was tough, dried out and bland. They have delicious fresh crab for $12-$15 at any good chinese restaurant. Thanh Long's is $31.95. Waitress said crab is frozen because it is "out of season." A ridiculous statement when so many other restaurants had resh crab for much less. Garlic noodles were ok, but overcooked and mushy. They added a large gratuity, then gave us the receipt with a line for "tip" to trick us into tipping twice. Crustacean is frozen too, fyi. Botto... read more
