Ignore everything negative. This is a great place. And there are not parking meters nearby. – It is not true that the food at Tangerine is disappointing, nor is the service, the incredibly friendly staff, or the incredibly capable manager who frankly could be at Wynn Las Vegas directing fine dining. Any restaurant will seek to protect and preserve their best customers. That's good business, and sometimes we all have to put up with that. One night a famous movie star went to Tangerine. His handler was incensed they would not ... read more
love tangerine – We are so glad Tangerine is in our neighborhood. We love to walk there, take all our visitors there, celebrate our lives there. The food is great (the duck rolls our absolute fave!), and very well-priced, but we return time after time for the people: co-owner and chef Sean, the ever-gracious host Katherine, and the flawless waitstaff. Tangerine is at once a lovely place for a romantic occasion, and a great spot for a spontaneous meal. We'll be back!
Great atmosphere, food is divine, staff very pleasant – I stumbled into Tangerine with two friends last night after we were wandering around the Castro and our stomachs started growling. The menu looked tasty and we literally wanted to try everything on it, so we each ordered two appetizers, a bottle of wine and a side of bok choy. Everything we tried - lamb lollipops, chicken and onion cakes, smoked salmon cakes, the ribes, etc. - besides the corn fritters, was quite tasty, and the service was superb. We had this adorable B... read more
Very disappointed – After reading the reviews, I called Tangerine to see if I could make a reservation for a large group for Sunday brunch. I was told that the restaurant doesn't take reservations -- no exceptions -- and that the best way to get a good table was to arrive early. Two weeks later, I arrived nearly an hour before the restaurant opened, and waited outside. There are two nice tables near the window alcove, separate from the more crowded, noisy dining area. Right before opening the doors, a waiter put a "reserved"... read more
Good food, cozy place! – This was my 2nd time to Tangerine and the food was consistently good. I ordered the Sea Bass, which came out perfect. The fish was sweet and moist. It was really tasty on top of the bed of rice. My friend ordered the pork chop and it tasted better than last time. The meat was perfectly cooked and marinated. We were really surprised by the crab cakes, fluffy and soft, they were really good. The best appetizer has to be the clams and mussels. Save the bread and sauce for dipping. We saw the next table ... read more
Wish Tangerine Was Located Here in Seattle! – We made our 3rd visit to San Francisco Aug 30, 2007 and ate at Tangerine on September 4th. It quickly became our favorite Bay area restaurant. WOW! The stuffed portobellas are divine - I can't emphasize this enough. So were the spicy corn fritters and the yam cakes! It was hard to determine which we loved most. Entrees were the Seabass Edamame and Prawn Pasta with Spicy Anchovy, both extraordinary in presentation and taste. Service was impeccable. We did not have reservations, bu... read more
Brunch is back – Check this out - We arrived with what seemed to be the masses for Saturday Brunch, around 11 am. We were seated within minutes. Our waitress was fantastic - really friendly but not intrusive! The menu selection for a saturday brunch totally rocked! Each dish was excellent with combination, portion, and presentation too! What a great neighborhood haunt!!! This is definitely on my list. Look out Tangerine, you have a new regular customer!!
Great Brunch! – Tangerine is always my 1st choice for weekend brunch. The omelets and pancakes are fantastic! My favorite is the blue crab omelet which has a ton of crab meat in it w/ a small amount of cheese (I think swiss) and a dollop of guacamole on top. The mimosas and OJ are amazingly fresh. The ambiance is great; very open and bright or you can sit outside on sunny days. I've had dinner there almost 2 years ago and enjoyed it too!
Nice waitstaff but truly horrid food – Both the execution and presentation of all of our dishes was really off - sea bass on a bed of spinach with black bean sauce and jasmine rice sounded great but when it came - the proportions were garguntuan, the sea bass was oily on the outside, slightly undercooked in spots and completely flavorless which sat on top of a pile of huge old spinah leaves that had become wilted (in an icky way) by the very salty black bean sauce - all of which sat on what must have been 4 cups of cooked ri... read more
